UABSports.com: Andy Kennedy Named UAB Head Men’s Basketball Coach
https://uabsports.com/news/2020/3/20/and...coach.aspx

"I am blessed to be able to return to my alma mater, in a city that I love, to lead this storied basketball program," Kennedy said. "I want to thank Dr. Watts and Mark Ingram for believing in me and affording me this tremendous opportunity. In 1977, when Gene Bartow came to the Magic City to start UAB Athletics, he did so with a vision to create a nationally relevant basketball program. It is now my mission to restore this program back to its rightful place on the college basketball landscape."

“The only place that’s been home is this one.”
Damn the hype vid got me going:

Renewed my season tickets this morning
Yay
How long ago did AK move back to Birmingham?
Welcome back home, Andy.
I imagine if he’s been with Espn/SEC network for 2 years, that’s probably how long he’s been in Bham? Isn’t SEC HQ in Bham?

He's had a condo in Homewood for a while but he bought a house in Hoover in May 2018.
If you watch the hype video closely, you can see what the crowds were like at Bartow in the late 80's/early 90's.

checkout the random video throughout at Bartow, there are fan all the way to the top of the arena.

That is what we need to get back to having!
I haven't seen the video. Who were the opponents?

The network HQ is in Charlotte. I’m just wondering if this has been in the works for a long time

Duke, Kansas, UNC and Kentucky.

They blurred out the background on Old dominion, Jacksonville and UNCC because the place was empty.

He's been back in Bham for about 2 years.
GREAT HIRE...Andy brings over a decade of head coaching experience and is the winningest coach in Ole Miss history

Here is what hoop dirt says about the staff.
-I keep hearing that Louisiana Monroe associate head coach Ryan Cross is in the mix to join Andy Kennedy at UAB. I’ve also heard Clemson director of recruiting Philip Pearson’s name mentioned here as well as a current D1 JUCO head coach. More on this as it shakes down.

That Juco HC has to be Butch Pierre, I am assuming and hoping.

Of course Pearson, who had his name linked to us in the last cycle may want to leave Clemson, with Brownell swimming in boiling water up there.
Kennedy has all of the Alabama tie in's.

Does Wimp have an available son that can join the staff?

Andy never played in the Great Midwest so they were mostly Sun Belt opponents.
And actually very good ones at the time. Coach Bartow would draw pretty decent crowds back in the day regardless of opponent.
We had 9,000 for Alcorn State. I remember 11,000 in the BJCC for a team called Baptist. Not making this up but we did have some bad crowds on occasion. Back then you went to see UAB.

Great day for the program. We have a lot of work to do. AK basically and politely echoed some of my comments that I have been blasted for.
