I just wanted to gauge the thoughts on everyone here in participating in one of the other post season tournaments, the CIT or CBI. They generally get a mix of low majors and mid majors, though last year both West Virginia and DePaul participated in the CBI, and Washington State looks likely to participate in the CBI this year.

On the upside, they would give us some more practices/reps, the fans another shot to watch the team play, as well as give Knight a shot to break the scoring record. On the other hand, they cost money, I don’t know if the players want to participate, and we’re an older team, so the extra practices may not help as much.

Selfishly, as a fan, I’d rather have more basketball and would like to see the team participate in one of these tournaments, but I’m curious what others on here think.
I am a fan of both, think we should have played in them in the past, and think we should do so on a go forward basis.

I actually had a conversation with the AD about this, and other things, over a month ago.

Not happening ... unless something's changed.

Personally, I would love to see the season extended so Nate would have the opportunity to set the scoring record And showcase himself a bit more!!
If the players/coaches want to do it, we should. If they don't care, not worth it.

That being said, wonder if those events end up happening this year given athletic cancellations upcoming and the fact that they'd lose an enormous amount of money if played without crowds. Doubt many would even notice if they were called off.
They may well be cancelled. Ivy League just cancelled their Tournament and gave their bid to Yale. A lot depends on what happens, health-wise, in the country over the next week or so.
I agree these minor tournaments may not even come off with the current virus emergency (two confirmed cases in Va Beach this morning).

Based on the past, I don't see the players having the heart for it anyway.
Please NO!

This would be the biggest waste of money since Huge decided the College could afford to eat 5 years worth of Tony's salary.

4 starters are seniors, you only participate in this type of tournament when you have most or all of your team coming back the next season.

Interesting, I almost would've thought Huge would be pro these tournaments
I'm okay with pay-to-play tournaments if we have the money. Tribe Club hit me up for money to cover "MBB Foreign Trip;" that seems like a better use of resources.

Completely agree with this. CBI/CIT is not worth it, especially this year due to the potential lack of teams.
Given our postseason history and opportunities are so limited, I have always favored participating. We've been through I think 4 or 5 seasons where we could have gone and chosen not. When the fields are eventually announced and you see participants like Columbia, Yale, Furman, Davidson, George Mason, Marshall, etc. - I can never quite square why they participate and we don't.

I was hoping, if we didn't meet the big dance or NIT, that our new AD might try a different approach on these opportunities.

Agreed plus do not see the Seniors having any desire

Can someone please explain why it's only/always W&M Seniors who have no desire?

Or were you talking age groups???

I just heard that the ACC just cancelled their conference tournament for the same reason. They gave their auto bid to UNC.

The really funny thing here is, out of 14 teams, UNC actually is the 4th most favored team to win this year's ACC Tournament, after Duke, Fla. State and UVA.

Looks like the CBI is being cancelled due to Corona
I'll post it before BillyMac does. Guarantee that the A10 will use the coronavirus concerns as a way to steal another NCAA bid. Perhaps only Dayton will not play in their tournament. Or, they can declare VCU or Davidson the auto bid winner.

Ha! I was going to post my annual A-10 rant later today, but I was going to give it as the "Safest Bet" for the Week. Dayton WILL NOT WIN the A-10 Tourney.

I was actually thinking that is why they WON'T cancel the tournament, because that would give the Auto Bid to Dayton (but, maybe, as you suggest, Dayton will say that they are keeping their players at home...just in case). If the tournament is played, then they can have one of the undeserving teams win...as they always do...

In Bernie McGlade's 11 years as Commissioner, the #1 seed has won the tournament once. For the past 10 years, they have always gotten one more team in the Tournament than they actually deserved. Those extra paydays from the NCAA begin to add up, after a while.

Anyway, here it is, Dayton will not win the A-10 Tourney. You heard it here 2nd, right after TP91. 03-thumbsup

Hmm, another reason to join the A-10? 05-stirthepot
