Reassurance we hired the right President to lead us.
Look at the slides related to growth of out-of-state students from 2013 to this year. Lots of good news in the entire presentation! The future looks brighter.

The enhancement of academics over his tenure here has been impressive and long overdue. I hope to see an increase in on-campus enrollment, too.
Cool!
I am willing to bet that part of our growth in student applications outside of the mid south can be attributed to our success in football

Much more than just good football.
They changed their approach to recruiting by hiring more people, targeted major urban centers and became more aggressive in how they got names and how they marketed the university.
They reduced the out-of-state fees beyond just adjacent county fee waivers that made cost of coming much more attractive.
The FedEX arrangement and the massive increase in access to on-line courses had an impact.
The innovation and entrepreneurship efforts and new on campus enterprises is a great sell.
The designation as a military friendly campus is a multi-layer impact. Years ago when I was Asst Dean of Admissions I made an annual trip to San Diego to recruit Navy and Marine enlisted to enter a Broadened Officer Opportunity program called Boost. Having the Millington Base so close was a and can still be a great asset.

The improving academic status, the changing appearance of our campus and yes even success in sports plays a role. When you don't have a local area with great numbers to drive the growth you have to work harder and be more strategic with everything else.
This goes WELL past football.

We get them either way. They go off to school, party to much, get kicked out set out a semester and end up here anyway.

They become ______ football and Memphis Basketball fans.

It's starting to change, finally.
Dr. Rudd is addressing the one major issue which has held the U of Memphis back in previous P5 expansion. That is our image academically. Not being a Tier 1 research university has hurt us with some of the bluebloods.

Out of touch, as you are somewhat like to be.

The kind of kid you describe will always be here, and there is nothing to be done about it - and nor should it, because parents financials do not equal academic profile.

But cute attack on Memphis from you, as always.
