Is there any chance the Lending Tree Bowl is next? I imagine the stadium size would be perfect for that game.
The city was very short sided and cost themselves a chance to revamp Ladd for high school football and soccer. Ladd will still not be used, and no money to keep up a stadium that may be past the ability to keep it up.

I hope not. The general consensus is that the Lending Tree Bowl will continue to stay at Ladd Peebles Stadium.

Why would you rather it stay at Ladd? It seems to me with how Ladd is falling apart the bowl will not survive.

ESPN owns the bowl. Won’t be long long before they force the hand and move it to campus.

Why would you want to keep it at Ladd?

Sun Belt and MAC players and fans who travel down to Mobile deserve better. Ladd is a total disgrace and the only thing going for it is proximity to downtown.

South Alabama's AD was on the radio this morning saying he would love to have the bowl game on campus.

Lending Tree (Mobile AL) Bowl and USA haven't exactly had a happy relationship.

It is locally owned, not by ESPN.

That is correct.
If the bowl did move to USA what would Ladd have left.

Guess that’s what the city came up with the appease the locals that were losing everything. The city had a chance to give to USA and get $5 mil back to revamp Ladd into a solid high school stadium and possibly soccer field, but they declined, the only reason I can think is that they thought it would might stop South from leaving the old girl behind. Very short sighted by the city officials that left their constituents with nothing.

I think the amount the school was giving immediately to the City was an immediate $2.5 million in exchange for pledging $10 million over 20 years. Getting their hands on that much capital without having to go through a bond process was a real benefit to them in terms of being able to renew the Ladd property immediately. It's a shame that it turned so adversarial and that USA was painted as trying to steal money from Mobile. Especially considering the university is one of the area's largest employers and provides millions of dollars in free medical care to the residents every year.
