Please NIU Athletics, radio team, MAddawg and anybody else stop saying NIU has clinched a tie for the MAC West title. First off there is no West title and If Ball St wins Friday if anyone is West champs it would be Ball St after beating NIU in both games they would’ve played.

The division winner really does not matter at all, just the tiebreakers are important for seeding. NIU would have clinched the division lead if Ball State had loss tonight. I am not sure if NIU and Ball State are considered co-champions if Ball State wins even though Ball state would have had 2-0 lead head to head, I think they might be still be co-division winners but not sure on this. The bottom line, it don't matter one bit, NIU wins they are the 3 seed, Ball State wins, NIU is the 4 seed.

+1. Gives me a headache. The format of the MAC Tournament (here, MACT) is: the top four seeds get byes, while 5-8 host 9-12 in first-round games. Then everything moves to Cleveland for the quarters, semis and championship. The whole conference regular season is about determining #1 through #12 seeds in the MACT. How hard is that to comprehend?

I think I remember Montgomery mentioning the West title tie last night on the radio after the game. Just saying. Said his team would play Friday as usual when questioned about player minutes. Wanted highest seed possible.

As long as there are "divisions" there is a MAC West title. Let's all reserve judgment and see if they raise a banner (God knows there is room) prior to next season.

Being West Champs is recognized. I've seen the ring the guys got when they won the West in 2006. Exactly who are you to tell athletics it isn't?
If BSU does win on Friday they'll get the tiebreaker over NIU and seed number 3. NIU would slip to number 4. But, with both records 11-7, there would be a co-west division championship. You can debate whatever it means as long as you want but I'll bet that there will be a banner to that effect next year.
These guys worked their tails off this year, let them have this W, no matter what happens Friday.
Of course NIU would call themselves co-champs if they lost to Ball St Friday that’s not the point! Let’s put it this way let’s say Ball St has a one game lead over NIU and NIU has beaten them once already. They play Friday night for the second time and NIU wins. So NIU and Ball St now have same record but NIU beat Ball St. twice, I doubt anyone from NIU Athletics or NIU radio team or Huskies fans would call or consider Ball St co - MACWEST champs. Everyone of these groups would say NIU beat them twice so they are the real West champs.
Sports fan, who am I to tell them it isn’t, I’am Donald J. Trump the king of America and whatever I say goes! If NIU wins they are MAC West champs! If NIU loses then Ball St are the MAC West champs!
I hate the "co-champ" stuff. There is only one. If you lose the tie-breaker, you are not it.
