I have an idea. What about Arkansas State as an all-sports replacement for UConn?

I know, I know. They play in the Sun Belt. But here me out, please?

First, their record under current head coach Blake Anderson is pretty decent at 47-30. Not only that, but they've been to a bowl game for nine consecutive years, including a win over UCF in the 2016 Cure Bowl. Third, they do have some history with another AAC school: Memphis. That's right. They've played each other fifty-eight times in a rivalry game called Paint Bucket Bowl. That means we'd be gaining a rivalry game! Fourth, their stadium is large enough to meet league standards. If we want the minimum stadium capacity to be 30,000, which is the stated capacity of Tulane's Yulman Stadium, Arkansas State's 30,406-seat Centennial Bank Stadium would fit right in.

As for basketball, well, they could be better, but they're competitive, at least. They're also competitive in other sports as well.

What do you think, sirs? (And ma'ams?)
Drugs are fun.
Nothing good happens after 2 am. Don’t post in the middle of the night.
To claim the Paint Bucket, the winning team has to dawn cruddy white T-shirts and pull their pants halfway down their @$$.
Call me for an opinion when the wavier runs out but not at 2AM. 04-jawdrop 02-13-banana 02-13-banana 03-lmfao 03-lmfao 03-lmfao COGS COGS 04-cheers
Oh, Hell no!

This thread could get fun.

Jonesboro is Greenville without the charm. what an idiotic thing to see first thing in the morning.
Well, if you’re that desperate (and I know you’re not), you might as well add Rice.

The Bayou Bucket defending champions Rice.

Uh, we beat y'all 45-27 the last time we played y'all back in 2018.

Everybody else: It was just an idea, especially given the fact we need to replace UConn, who didn't really pull their weight in football. And since this is a conference where football is king, I went for someone that would be in our footprint, so to speak. I also failed to mention that Arkansas State is the flagship school of the Arkansas State University system.
if i'm being honest, if we must take a Sun Belt team, I prefer App State first.

I really don't want to add App State.
No

This. App State has proven themselves to be the best Sunbelt team. Still think we ride it out for a few years and see how everything shapes out.

That's fair. I was just trying to think outside the box, if you will. And I kinda liked the idea of Arkansas State bridging the gap between Memphis and Tulsa, geographically speaking.

Geography is one of the few things I don't like about our conference. Other than away games at usf I have to jump on a plane for.

Hmm...I always thought Tulane wasn't that far from y'all. Guess I was wrong. Sorry.

I guess I take the fact I can drive five hours to Dallas or New Orleans for a game for granted. My fault, man.

I mean it's drive-able, probably about a 9 hour car ride. I've done it before, I'll be flying my next time to NOLA.
My point is I've been so spoiled in being able to drive less than six hours to see an AAC road game for my Coogs in two locations (Dallas and NOLA) that I forget others aren't so lucky in that regard. Still, I think adding a third Florida team may not be the best solution unless they have the right combination of football and hoops success as well as good to great football and hoops facilities.

Whatever you do on your time is your business. I'm pro App State.
If App State keeps finishing in the top 25 for the next 3 or 4 years in a row, the AAC might show some significant interest in them as a FB only member.

The name wouldn't be great for the image of the conference, but perhaps that could be adjusted to UNC-Appalachian, UNCA, or something along those lines to emphasize that it is a campus of the Univ. of North Carolina system.
