Just watched The Joker again Sunday. Glad Phoenix won an Oscar. Anyone who can make you feel uncomfortable for 2 hours deserves some kind of award.
Is San Diego State considered a high major?

They should be. Any school not in what is considered to be the Power 5 (ACC, B1G, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC) should be mid-majors but they don't seem to have any teams from the AAC in the poll either so I guess they consider both of those conferences, as well as the Big East as "high-majors" or whatever the term would be.

This is what wikipedia has to say about it and....it sounds like it's a fluid term that kind of gets labeled on the Power 5 conferences and then on a few others (AAC, Big East, Mountain West, A-10) when it seems to fit. And apparently sometimes Gonzaga, but apparently not with this poll.

Btw, at what point do the members of the WCC vote Gonzaga out of the conference? There is literally no point in them being a member other than there is simply no conference that geographically fits the school, considering it doesn't have a football program. Either way, that is no reason to keep them around just so you can fight for 2nd place (which is typically a fight between Saint Mary's and BYU but there are a few the pop up in there from time to time).
The WCC is not going to vote Gonzaga out of anything, unless the other members don't like the national recognition the conference gets from it or it becomes a big money issue (See recent Boise St./MWC controversy/lawsuit/agreement).

A 2018 story, but still valid, imo.

"Fluid" is a good term for all these labels. Gonzaga is #1 in the "mid-major poll" and #2 in the Feb. 9 AP Poll. San Diego State/MWC (#4 AP) and Houston/AAC (#20 AP) are not listed in the mid-major poll.

Here's a clue why/why not: If you look at the mid-major '"voting panel," no AAC or MWC members, although those two conferences are not considered P5 by the P5.

Speculation: the MWC and AAC declined to "vote" in the "mid-major" poll.

I'm waiting for the high low-mid-major poll.

I would think we'd be in the low mid to high major poll.
The Big East is universally accepted as a major conference. Every year it's in the top 2-3 in conference rankings.

The College Insider poll is a coaches poll. One coach from each participating conference has a vote each week. Tod Kowalczyk does the voting for the MAC. The AAC, MWC, A10, and C-USA(lol) choose not to be a part of this. I assume they feel conceding that they're a mid-major would hurt their brand.
Well, that was fun while it lasted.

I remember a few years back NIU busted into the poll and that marked the beginning of a big downside. Maybe it's like the Sports Illustrated Civer curse. Also why I wanted to get that word out quick because I knew it had a short shelf life
Huskies still got 6 votes this week! Still in top 50, better than nothing.

Must have been 6 people that didn't notice last week...

Other possible scenarios, someone thought we were NKU or UNI, or Kowalcyzk on the panel finally decide he can never beat NIU again and placed them at #19
Huskies lose remaining 6 votes from last week and out of poll completely now. That is fair, NIU is not one of best 25 mid majors right mow, but come on , EIU with a vote what the heck. How I'd rank them right now from mid major:

1 Gonzaga
2 Brigham Young
3 Saint Mary's (CA)
4 Yale
5 Northern Iowa
6 East Tennessee State
7 Furman
8 Georgia State
9 North Carolina-Greensboro
10 Liberty
11 Vermont
12 Texas State
13 UC-Irvine
14 Loyola (IL)
15 Bradley
16 Harvard
17 San Francisco
18 Indiana State
19 Little Rock
20 Akron
21 Northern Colorado
22 Bowling Green State
23 Montana
24 Buffalo
25 Pacific
If Buffalo is 24 then NIU should be there also.

To slightly defend EIU. This past week they beat both Murray State and Austin Peay.

Yes, they definitely had a good past few games and in dramatic fashion, but I am not sure how a voter could place them in the top 25 with a .500 record with literally one of the top 10 weakest SOS's in the nation
That’s not even the updated poll?
Yes, oops, sorry that was my rankings for the mid majors, here is the actual poll

http://www.collegeinsider.com/mens-mid-major-top-25.php Buffalo is not ranked but is receiving 7 votes. Personally Id have UB in the top 25 now
