This story may be a little premature. The Freep has not confirmed an offer was given.

I hope Fickell leaves the Bearcat program in chaos that lasts into September, when the Broncos play at 'ol Nippert Stadium in Cincy.

However, if a G5 coach turns down MSU, I will have a loud laugh at the expense of the pompous, arrogant, MSU fan base.
Maybe Roman Polanski is available and knows a lot about football.
Nobody wants to touch MSU right now... i

Its a P5 coaching graveyard... outside of Nick Saban... who has left that program and been successful elsewhere?
Now add the fact that the place is a basic dumpster fire... its definitely a "no way jose" zone! Fickell would be smart to gracefully say no thank you.

Some young coach in the likeness of a 2014 level PJ Fleck may decide to hop on board... try to "change the culture"... and likely be eaten up by the cess pool that is MSU. Poor bastard...

He may be a good fit at Penn State.
You guys worried Lester is gonna take the MSU job?

No.
I was hoping they would take either the CMU or EMU coach.

I actually proposed this last week:

Do you think @MSU_Football would take on Timmy for the rebuild if Western alum would pay his first year’s salary?

They should take Bill Cubit for three years just to cuss out and run out the troublemakers, and have him move into an admin. job and help hire a new guy. That would be a good way to finish out his career, about when he hits 70. That would be a positive reset for them.

Walls closing in on East Lansing. Fed courts don't mess around and 24 hrs after they spoke Coach D throws in the towel. Fickell, Campbell, Narduzzi all know that and ran

03-lmfao Epic response to it below as well:

That reminds me of the Dana Carvey/SNL skit...

Gerald Ford dead today at the age of 83.
Gerald Ford shot dead today at the age of 83.
Gerald Ford eaten by a pack of wolves today...
At this stage of the game, since Fickell turned them down, MSU is not going to get a long-term answer as HFC.

Keep Tressel as Interim HC and remaining staff, do full search after 2020 season.
McElwain and Creighton part of the list compiled on Athlon.

I may be wrong but it's possible Dantonio waited until now to retire so MSU would have to retain his staff (he wouldn't have to fire them) and they wouldn't have to be scrambling to find jobs.

Tressel will be interim coach with current staff.

After 2020 season MSU will do full search when things have cleared up some and Dantonio's staff will have chances to look for work.
Drew Stanton publicly floating McElwain: https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports...713036002/
MSU is such a sh*t show. From the BOT, the President, the AD, and all the way down to the part time janitor in South Wonders dormitory.
After all the shite they talk about WMU and the MAC, I'm loving every second of this.

You may be right, although tough to image Dantonio willing to damage his legacy beyond repair just so one of his drinking buddies can get the HC gig by default.

Difficult decision if Tressel is elevated to HC. If you leave the "interim" tag on him for a year, that'll decimate recruiting and overall team morale, knowing that the coaching staff is merely keeping the seat warm for a year.

If I were an MSU fan, I'd want them to clean house now and get stability, even if it meant scouring 'under' what you originally planned (Creighton, FCS, CUSA, etc.).
