Luke Fickell checks every box.

As regards timing, Dantonio collected a $4.3MM bonus just a couple weeks ago. It was incumbent on him being MSU HC at a certain date.

I think it's as simple as that.

MSU admins went along with that "gaming of the system" as a bit of a "lifetime achievement reward/bonus" for Dantonio.

yeah but that was 3 weeks ago now.... Jan 15...

what is more interesting-

He, former AD Mark Hollis, and former president LouAnna Simon have all been deposed in the Blackwell case. Dantonio's near six-hour deposition was on January 10, five days before he received the bonus.

However, in his letter to the school/fans/alumni, Dantonio stated that he planned to stay on within the athletic department? Huh?
It seems like they wanted him out at HC, but aren't going to pay him NOT to work. It seems like another bad decision by the same school which kept Larry Nassar on staff for decades.
The day before national signing day? Ouch! Terrible timing for recruiting, plus all the best candidates were already hired.
Stunning. The timing couldn't be worse.

Something very stinky still going on at Michigan State, there has to be a lot more to this.
I can't stress how important this next hire is. The division is so tough a poor hire can knock them down into the lower level of the division and could give Indiana or Maryland a chance to be the new tweener team in the east.

Maybe he was also giving the gymnastics team pelvis exams?

Around the time Dantonios resignation went public, a state judge kept a portion of the deposition from former AD Mark Hollis' in the Blackwell case under seal. It dealt with the recruiting of Auston Roberson, a former MSU player who was convicted of sexual assault. Hollis' counsel was unsuccessful in having a federal judge rule in their favor to not have Hollis answer the questions, but was successful in having the testimony sealed.

Luke Fickell checks every box.

Dear MSU, please hire him and have UC bring Tommy Tuberville 2.0 into Clifton.

I think you have to offer Fickell and if he declines, you have to hire McElwain upstate. Simply promoting Tressel is too risky.

Be careful what you wish for. As dismal as Tommy Tuberville #1 was, we still beat you every year.

LOL - yeah, a Miami fan chiming in?

I think trash talk should only be for schools that record at least 1 win a decade against their rival.
Looks like Fickell isn't intrested just got a 4 Star WR out of Illinois and another 4star WR going to announce signing to UC tomorrow.

Class will have FIVE 4 Stars. Allready a top 45 class for Fickell and Marcus Freeman.
If you think Fickell would jump ship this late in the year, you don't know much about CLF the person. He's not going to bail on his best recruiting class and maybe the best in bearcat history. MSU is a trainwreck that will probably be put on probation sometime soon. His oldest son plays for Moeller HS in Cincinnati and is being recruited as an OL at some pretty decent Div 1 P5 schools right now. He is building something special at UC and seems very happy in the city.

03-shhhh
Was the top choice Campbell?

I heard on the radio he was hooking recruits and their family members up with jobs, and that was the big violation. Of course, they never got into how much those jobs paid or if attendance was mandatory.

I can't imagine too many people would want to go there at this point. All the drama of Penn State with none of the built-in advantages.
Ty Willingham is free.

As in they don't have to pay him? Only way I'd hire him if I was an AD.

That FootballScoop article is saying Campbell was the first choice and said no, and that Fickell was the second and is indicating no.

HOWEVER, there is a lot of skepticism for their source. I don't think you can read too much from that article.
