Rumor is that Luke Fickell might get the call, which could hurt Cincinnati, one of our upcoming opponents.
Or possibly Narduzzi after a few years at Pitt?
If I were betting I would put my money on Narduzzi getting the job.
McElwain has been floated. Why not pour gasoline on the dumpster fire?

Creighton too. Bit of a stretch, but just the sort of guy to clean up a program.
Football Scoop is reporting Fickell, Narduzzi and Pat Shurmur top the list of potential replacements.

FIRE UP CHIPS! :)
You gotta think Narduzzi is the front-runner, unless the university wants to stay away from anything related to Dantonio.
Does PJ Fleck get any consideration?

Why would he want to coach at the dumpster fire known as MSU?

I can't see Narduzzi wanting to leave what he has built at Pittsburgh to take over the mess Dantonio has left and live in East Lansing.

You're probably right. They need a total rebuild. They need youth and energy. Fickell?

Fickell would make sense, if MSU can get him at this late date. As another poster wisely pointed out, that may help WMU at Cincy this coming September.

Also, Butch Jones is available and would not leave another program in chaos if he took the MSU job. He did wonders at CMU, but couldn't deliver longterm at Tennessee. That said, not many coaches could. MSU is no Tennessee and the Pig10 is no SEC. Jones might be able to make it work in East Lansing, if he is interested.

I don't think MSU would want to pay P.J.'s buyout right now. It's pretty hefty.

Besides, anyone who is considered for the job has to know NCAA sanctions may be on the horizon soon and he would probably not want to deal with that.

If the school is hit with sanctions, you have to believe they would include scholarship losses.
This is going to be a most underwhelming hire by MSU... likely someone already on staff. Nobody want's to touch that place right now. I would not be surprised to see a mass portal exodus of current players.

I feel sorry for Reed about right now... I would bet he wishes he had stuck around. I wonder if due to the coaching change he can transfer back without having to sit out another year... :) MSU is going to struggle to even be bowl eligible for the next 3 to 5 years I would bet.
I'm sure Reed isn't happy about Dantonio leaving. However, playing time won't be an issue for him next season, regardless of coach. He's their prized transfer-portal recruit.

Figure getting a chance to shine on the "B1G" stage on Saturdays, along with the major uptick in fandom and media coverage, is still a motivating factor to him.

They’re going to have to throw a lot. With 2 RBs having transferred out and their top RB recruit (1 of only 2) looking like he will be backing out of the commitment that leaves a trio of sophomore RBs and their lone signed commit (offers from MSU, Eastern Illinois, Henderson St, Harding U, Lamar & Langston - I challenge anyone to name more than 1 mascot on that offer list) they are going to have their work cut out for them in the run game. Also take into account their putrid O line and they will be breaking in a new starting QB.

I’d think given the timing, I would agree they are stuck with their interim HC. It’s a bad situation for a coach looking to build his resume. Talent level is as bad as I can remember. The underwhelming recruiting class will not help. Probability of outgoing talent through the portal is very high. As well as the looming trouble for the program from the Blackwell mess. Who in their right mind would take this on? This is a min 4-5 year rebuild to get to some level of respectability.

Dantonio did them no favors by leaving at this juncture. He also blew up the bridge to the most fertile area of in state recruiting.

This has been the talk of Detroit sports radio the last couple of days. Fickell seems to be the front runner in most peoples eyes, but I'm not sure Dantonio would want to leave his coaches without jobs -- which may be the reason for the late exit. Thinking it through, Tressel seems like the obvious choice for Dantonio's hand picked replacement. Dantonio said he would like to see a younger coach with midwest ties. Whoever takes it over has a lot of work ahead of them!

These people are all kool-aid drinking morons. MSU is a complete disaster right now and the school has all its money tied up in lawsuits. It has no money to overspend to attract a desirable candidate like Fickell. Add in the potential sanctions, this hire is going to be very disappointing to the Moo U kool aid drinkers.
