I don't care too much about the composition of the roster as long as we're winning and recruiting young men of high character (I'm not a win-at-all-costs guy, even though I do sometimes miss the Huggins era). That said, I would take a raw freshman with a lot of potential/talent over a grad transfer role player, of course, but I'm all for impact transfers like Rap and DeJulius.

I agree with this. It does make it more enjoyable but more importantly I feel like high character guys are more disciplined and develop more plus promote that same type of environment for the team to follow. I do think this is something that Brannen looks for as it seems for all his signees he highlights the relationships with the recruits parents.
Are you saying we have not had a lot of high character players before Brannen?

Not sure if you're asking me or robert but I wasn't implying that at all. I think Cronin brought in on average terrific kids.
Thanks. Was just clarifying as this program has been bringing in hard working high character kids who graduate for a lot of years now.

I'm not. I thought Cronin did an excellent job of recruiting players of high character. Huggins, not as much, although it's not as if there weren't some great people who played for him.

Exactly this. It's one thing to rely on transfers and JUCO's to fill out half your roster. It's another thing to take a few to supplement areas of weakness, which is Brannen's strategy during the last recruiting cycle and this one.

I get your point, but if you are taking a few each year as in these recent recruiting cycles, math says you will soon have filled out "half your roster" or more. For continuity, I guess I prefer the traditional route, but you gotta adapt to the times so it doesn't bother me much either way how many guys we get each year who are transfers.

Yes and no. In the case of Vogt and DDJ, they were transfers with multiple years of eligibility. With guys like Jaevin, McNeal, and Rap, they're pretty much one-year transfers so they only use a roster spot for a single season. At the end of the day, 75+% of the roster will likely be players signed out of high school/prep school.

The predominance of 1 (and sometimes 2) year transfers was largely a function of the grad transfer rule. If they expand the immediate eligibility rule to cover all first time transfers as seems to be happening that is going to change the situation quite a bit going forward.

Possibly but I doubt we'll see a massive shift to where half of UC's roster is made up of transfers. That doesn't seem to jibe with Brannen's team-building strategy.
Chad posted the Cookie Monster. I believe that is basketball?
that'd be great. i have no idea who it could be
maybe it's a 22
I'm pretty sure that was in reference to the DB that committed to the football team yesterday. With Brannen not getting to evaluate guys in person, I don't expect any commitments for bball here soon.

Cookies is football. Basketball is Batman. Or Brannen will post the dancing bearcat

Glenn Taylor, Las Vegas wing.

Nice. Our staff doesn't seem to mind recruiting out west. There really aren't a ton of powerhouse basketball programs out west outside of Gonzaga and Arizona, so we might be able to get a decent pipeline going.
We really need to find a serviceable post, or else we may be moving to a 5-out next year with our personnel. Unless of course Lahkin is redshirting to just learn English and is a stud (which I doubt).

I'd like to see us go after a grad transfer with some size in 2021 -- preferably a guy with high-major conference experience who can play solid defense.
Grad transfers and now regular transfers with no sit out requirement seem to be the direction we are heading.

Although now that I think about it...wouldn’t a lot of grad transfers get a free year due to Covid to start at their current school if they choose to?
I know we are still in the hunt for the big kid Paul Atkinson from Yale according to Borzello:
