Full Version: MAC Postseason Awards Predictions
You're currently viewing a stripped down version of our content. View the full version with proper formatting.
I was browsing the Bart Torvik site and noticed they have a player rating scale. I took the liberty of posting all the MAC players who have a rating of 3.0 or higher. We're about 40% of the way through the MAC season now. Who do you have as your first or second team selections? Also, feel free to make POY, DPOY, 6th man of the year, and COY predictions as well.

Player Name................TEAM......G.......MIN%.....PRPG!

Luke Knapke................Toledo.....19.......84.7......3.6
Tyler Cheese................Akron......18.......74.4......3.6

Justin Turner................BGSU......12.......51.8......3.5
Michael Flowers............WMU.......18........81.9.....3.5
David DiLeo.................CMU........16........76.1.....3.1
Troy Simons................Kent St....18........81.2.....3.1
Xeyrius Williams..........Akron.......18........77.1.....3.1
Ishmael El-Amin..........Ball St......18........79.3.....3
Eugene German...........NIU..........19........83.......3

MIN% is the percentage of his teams minutes this particular player played.
PRPG! is the overall rating.
Looks like a very flawed metric if it has Troy Simons as KSU’s best player ahead of Williams, Pippen, and Whittington.
Right now this is how I have it.

1st Team
LCJ
Marreon Jackson
Turner
Cheese
Flowers

2nd Team
Preston
German
Knapke
Teague
Xeyrius

McKay would be an honorable mention. Hard for me to include him when he's missed half his teams MAC games.

6th Man - Segu (There were a few guys who started about half their teams games, but not sure what the threshold is for qualifying for this award)
POY - LCJ
COY - Groce
DPOY - Wouldn't even know where to begin to guess.

I'd agree, it's far from perfect. In particular I thought Teague is way undervalued here. Also, the gap between LCJ and Marreon seems excessively large.

I have Teague as a first teamer.

I think this takes care of any potential all MAC candidate. LCJ looks like the POY favorite being near the top of the MAC in PPG and APG while maintaining great shooting splits and playing on the top team in the MAC so far. If I had to pick all MAC first and second teams so far, they would be:

1st team:
Loren Cristian Jackson
Marreon Jackson
Justin Turner
Eugene German
Jason Preston

2nd team:
Luke Knapke
Tahjai Teague
Tyler Cheese
Xeyrius Williams
Jayvon Graves

HM:
Kevin McKay
Michael Flowers
Daeqwon Plowden
Danny Pippen
Willie Jackson

This is every MAC freshman averaging at least 4 PPG. I think ultimately FOY comes down to Jarron Coleman and Dae Dae Grant unless someone's numbers change drastically. For now I'll give the edge to Grant.

My all freshman team:
Dae Dae Grant
Jarron Coleman
Keshaun Sanders
B. Artis White
Luke Bumbalough

Very well put together. Ideally, I would have put something like this together. I just didn't want to invest the time to enter all the ... to separate all the fields. I wish this forum was more friendly in recognizing spaces.
I guess Senderoff should be coach of the year, with what he's doing with one 3rd team player. Who's doing more with less?
Any team like Kent, who spreads the ball around, is going to be underrepresented on these lists.

That was my probably too vague of a point: all-conference teams are not necessarily the best players in the league, but the ones that have the highest stats in a couple of categories and a lot of that can be because a player is much better than his teammates. The first 16 players would look different if you were choosing up two sides of 8 to form teams instead of picking only the best stat accumulators. A lot of overlap, to be sure, but markedly different.
I would love for Davonta Jordan to get on an All-MAC team, even if it is honorable mention. I think he is such an underrated player in this league and should be rewarded as at least one of the top 20 guys in the conference
Willie Jackson is #3 in rebounding nationally and #5
Double Doubles.

Also, Marreon Jackson and LCJ both look like unanimous selections at this point, but once you get past those, I don't see a huge amount of separation between everyone else. Perhaps you'd need to add Turner to that list as well given that he's the best player on the 1st place team.

I would have had Antonio Williams on my 1st team two weeks ago, but he hit a rough skid. If he keeps playing like he did against Toledo, he'll certainly be in the running for 1st team by the end of the season.

The flu got him among others and it has proved to be tough to recover from. He was throwing up on the bench in Oxford and has finally gotten back to full strength. Same for Whittington. He was in great form last night and single-handedly turned the game around when the Flashes were down 21.
So the awards should be announced tomorrow. Who's your picks?
