On ESPN+. 7-5 SMiss early.
Watching Murphy shoot when he's feeling it is really fun. Feel like he could pull up from half court and hit one.
18 points in 7 minutes for Southern Miss. Guys just look completely lost on the defensive end.
18-13 Southern Miss.
22-20 Southern Miss. Another flaw on offense is that we aren't a very good screening team. Way too easy for teams to fight through our screens.
Pera rightfully yelling at the ref over a missed call but the ref isn't the one who put a lineup of Moore, Mullins, Parrish, Peterson, and Crisler on the floor. No shotmaking out there with that combo. 34-27 Southern Miss.
34-30 Southern Miss at the half. Defense rebounded nicely after a bad first 7-8 minutes. But this is a bad team and we need to beat them soundly in the second half. Nothing else will suffice.

Murphy got hot and then went cold and picked up two fouls. Parrish the best player for us on the floor. Nothing much else.
Why is Mullins even on the floor? Shows absolutely none of the skill he had last year. And again we offer no defense farther out than 12 feet or so. USM is allowed to have open shots like it’s warmups.
43-38 Southern Miss after a Parrish layup and semi-lob.

A bit harsh I think. Even with some of his struggles he's still probably the second best attacker we have behind Parrish. But it doesn't help him that so much of our offense is looking for the open shooter.
Just a reminder that Southern Miss is 4-14 and #286 in Pomeroy. I'm hoping that the Owls can win, because a loss to that team should put Pera's job security on life support.

I think Karlgaard's should be getting close to being on the line as well. We are doing generally well in women's sports, but the big three moneymakers--football, men's basketball, and baseball--have all regressed substantially on his watch. Maybe we can no longer compete in them. if that's the case, then cut our losses and go D-III. But if we can, it's time to, and so far we're not.
57-46 Southern Miss. There's just nothing happening on offense and the defense isn't good enough to withstand long scoring droughts.
60-47 Southern Miss with 6:50 to go.
60-47 and we can't buy a bucket. 6:18 on the clock but it feels over.
Big 3s by Peterson and Murphy bring it to 7. Like all year, definitely no quit in this team.
62-55 with 3:36 remaining (under 4 timeout).
Southern Miss starters outscoring Rice starters 58-25.
Great fight... but tough when we miss foul shots.
Emphatic dunk plus one probably ends it. 69-58 Southern Miss with 2 mins left.
