Truthfully----Nobody is really paying attention yet. Thats even more true in years when things are going well economically. Thats why his campaign can be a gaff fest and still keep right on going. When polled---people who are not really paying one bit of attention to the race just back the only recognizable name in a ocean of relative unknowns.

Iowa and New Hampshire are paying attention. A good part of the rest of the country won't start until after Iowa. Its why the national polls for the Democrats or for the general election are pretty meaningless at this point. Biden isn't leading Democrats nationally. As you say, he's just the most recognizable.

There was an Eddie Murphy movie way way back.... he scammed his way into a congressional seat buy changing his last name to the name of the incumbent who died or resigned or something like that....

......anyway, the true to life form was that people went to the ballot box and voted for the name that they were familiar with and that was it. No clue they were voting for a different person.


That defines Biden's staying power for now at least. "Oh yea, Joe Biden, I think he was Obama's VP.... he must be Ok then....."


There are a lot of people (A LOT) who simply do not follow politics and/or simply do not care. They have not heard a word of this stuff and have no idea whats going on, but they recognize the name. Take those "smart people" on Jeopardy the other day as an example. A lot of these people do still vote, but they have no clue and just look for red or blue and a familiar name.....
