So now that the rivalry game is over we start back up with the normal CAA slate of Thursday/Saturday. This time we finally hit the road for Towson then JMU. We ended our home slate 2-1 which is fine. If we have aspirations of a top 4 seed this road trip needs to be, at worst 1-1. Ideally we can grab 2 road wins on this trip. With our road woes, 2-0 seems awfully unlikely.

With Towson's style of play, this game is just a bad matchup. Pair the 2 together and this could get ugly in multiple ways. The question, as it tends to be against Towson, is do the refs allow physical play or do they get whistle happy? We better hope for the latter. A physical team presents us many challenges that begin with our defense. We do not defend well, though it has improved. We give up way too many easy baskets at the rim, so a team forcing it down our throats down low doesnt bode well. Butler is our only semi physical player and this will be a challenge for him to stay on the court and out of foul trouble. As much as I want us to win this game, I just do not see it. I hope the guys can prove me wrong and start to get over the hump with winning on the road. I expect us to be about 5 point underdogs.

When will you predict Drexel will win a game?
I think that dan10's spread might be a bit large. But Spiker's Dragons are about 9-43 on the road and they haven't won a road game in close to a full calendar year. I can't see how anybody can predict a road win for Drexel until they can prove that they can do it.

I clearly had us beating UNCW. I think I am fair in my predictions. I have always taken a realistic approach. I have even been talking about how we needed a fast start in conference because its the soft part of our schedule. Delaware was a good surprise. No home crowd. Rivalry game against a team that was playing well prior was an easy spot for us to not win. Towson is just a bad matchup. Simple as that.

If you think we will beat Towson on the road I would love to hear your reasons behind that. Dialogue is a good thing
If they're going to make strides on the road this year, this is exactly the sort of road trip they need to take 1 of, or at the VERY least be competitive in. Two middling CAA teams. If it's two blowouts, road concerns will only grow.

I would be surprised if we go 0-2. JMU is bad. Towson isnt good either but we are not a physical team. If we do go 0-2 on this road trip it will be hard to have faith that we will be able to win any road game except for Elon.
I predict a loss but not by almost 20 points. Towson isn't that great. Ill provide more details shortly :)
Who starts a Thursday night game at 6pm? High schools dont even do that.

High school games aren't usually on national TV. Even major conferences like the Big East and AAC start games at odd times to fit into a national TV schedule. Villanova games start at 6:30, 8:30, and 9:00 this season. Rarely do they start at nice and pretty 7 PM. Surprisingly, there are two nationally televised games on CBS-SN tomorrow night. Hofstra/Northeastern is on at 8PM. So playing at 6:00 is reasonable.
Yes, it has everything to do with tv, which is fine. 2 nationally televised games back to back for the conference is a good thing. The latter game is obviously one worth having on national tv for the conference

Also Towson is a 4.5 point favorite.
And another dumpter fire is in the works on the road. This teams plays some decent basketball at the DAC. But once they put on the blue jerseys, they act like they've never practiced together.
Down 47-25 at half. Ugly game. Bad all around
You're down 47-25 at halftime. The first two CAA games on CBS Sports Network were close. Walton and Butler lead you with 6. Wynter scored 4 by shooting 2-7 including three 2-2 and no free throw attempts. Green scored 3, which was your only made 3. Butler leads you with 4 rebounds, and you only have 11. Okros has 2 of your 3 assists, and Wynter, who played the whole half, doesn't have any. Guards Brian Fobbs (14 points) and Allen Betrand (11) made 10 of 15 field goals including 4 of 7 threes. Then Towson had four players with 4 points, so they're on pace to win by 44 with only two double-digit scorers. I have no way of finding out, but I wonder what the biggest margin of victory for a team with two or fewer double-digit scorers is. Nakye Sanders leads Towson with 4 rebounds, and shockingly leads them with 3 assists. He averages exactly 1.5 assists, which is fourth on Towson. The teams combined to make all 11 free throws, with 7 by Towson.
We turn it over like its our job. We let teams get to the rim for their layup line like its our job. Fix either of these problems and we look completely different. Towson is hot shooting, but we are helping that cause. Too often we have seen this song and dance. A couple good games followed by an absolute dud. Inconsistency is a big problem.
9:39 left down 72-47.

No reason to have Cam playing at all at this point
Under 8 down 74-54.

Edit: out of timeout now down 76-57
Down 82-63 at the U4. Coletrane showing something. Walton is a disaster
89-73 final. Get on the bus, forget this one and move on. We showed decent fight to make it semi close, but this was a bad one. Defense better start showing up
I'm taking a look at the stats to see where it went wrong.

Both teams took the same # of shots. TU made 7 more of them. Towson had 8 more rebounds than Drexel. The difference in the game was the terrible 1st half defense. They continued to play hard with the game out of reach and played well after Towson shut down their intensity.

But it's another road game where they didn't show up to play. It's now been 341 days since the Dragons last won a road game. Spiker's Dragons are now 9-43 (.173).
I’m now a huge fan of the 6 pm start because it sent me to the pa farm show instead of this mess. Great move by the caa putting a blow out in an empty arena on national tv.
