NU hosts W&M at Matthews today.

The key for NU is to not let their guards play well IMO. Force them into tough shots and make them play tough defense, because I don’t think Knight and Van Vleit can solely beat NU by themselves, despite the height advantage.

Their bigs will also need the guards to contribute.
You came back from down 14 with 8:17 left to tie it on a three-point play by Walters with 13 seconds left. Nathan Knight scored with 1.1 seconds left to win 66-64. I read that Walker came close at the buzzer as he hit the back of the rim from past halfcourt.
Tough loss but I liked the way NU battled back despite a poor shooting effort.

Give credit where credit is due to W&M. I didn’t see the game yet but they obviously played a solid game. Look forward to the rematch later this year.

Roland needs to get his s**t together and stop chucking up shots. I never felt great about him leading the nation in scoring. This is why. He needs to let the game come to him more and stop thinking he has to score 30 a night.

Even after yesterday, Roland shoots well. Walker shoots well also, and Brace shoots threes great but doesn't twos well. All other things equal, a senior will shoot more than a freshman. Roland's field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage, free throw percentage, points per game, fouls per game, steals per game, turnovers per game, and blocks per game are all better than Pusica's last season.
NU visits W&M tonight.

NU has played much better on the road than they have in Boston.

I'm really interested in seeing how Coen comes up with a gameplan, now that he's seen Dane Fischer plays first-hand.

I would not be surprised if we win this game.
Looks like a small early lead. We've won the last two down there by the score of 90-70
This loss is on Coen.

First , you call time out when Brace is already at the line shooting a FT, because you’re so worried about the defense.

As a result, you iced Brace who missed the first FT. Then how do you let a 6-10 player go coast-to-coast defended by one player?

No one helps to stop his drive? If you foul him before he gets near the lane you still have at least 3 seconds left to get a shot.

Just an awful sequence to lose this one.

There’s not one team that has impressed me at all in the CAA. I’m just being honest.

We keep shooting our selves in the foot.

I actually knew we were in trouble when the Loewe kid made the 3 out of the timeout when we were up 5 late in the game. Had to make them work harder to score at that point.
You keep finding ways to lose. With 6.8 seconds left, Brace was fouled. He made the first free throw, but it didn't count because W&M called timeout in time. He missed the first, made the second, and Knight beat you with 1.5 seconds left for the first time. You called timeout, and your long three to decide the game was short and hit the front of the net. It ended 59-58. After getting your free throw percentage within .010 of Pepperdine, who leads Division I but is on a free throw shooting slump, you made 7 of 14 free throws, which was catastrophic. Roland led all scorers with 18, made all 3 free throws, and even tied Walters for your lead with 6 rebounds. He entered fifth on you in rebounds. Boursiquot had 12 points and 4 rebounds, but he missed both free throws and committed 4 fouls and 5 turnovers. Walker scored 10 and led you with 4 assists. Brace shot 2-4 and had 6 points and 4 rebounds. E fouled out in only 11 minutes. He missed his only shot, and 1 rebound was his only positive contribution. As I'm typing I see that your final shot was taken away, so it must have been too late, but all that affects are statistics. Knight led W&M with 17 points. His 11 rebounds were 1 fewer than Van Vliet, but Van Vliet scored 7 and shot 2-11. Quinn Blair scored 11 off the bench and was their second and final double-digit scorer. W&M made 2 of 17 threes (.118), but had a lot of free throw makes and attempts at 19-22 (.864).

I was rooting for you, because it would have made a four-way tie for first after Hofstra, Charleston, and Towson won. Saturday can't make a four-way tie for first because Charleston is at Towson. If Hofstra wins at W&M, those two and the winner of Charleston at Towson will be in a three-way tie.

Edit: i'm happy I read geewizNU's post, because I mistakenly thought W&M called timeout to ice Brace.
It really is a down year in the CAA. Props to W&M for making the most of their transfer situation. They seem to have risen to the top of this dump.

This one hurts
geewiznU confused me and I was right the first time. W&M called timeout to ice Brace and you called timeout after his free throws.
Geewiz, you hit the nail on the head. The 3 to cut it to 2 was huge and gave us the opportunity to shoot ourselves in the foot again. The last play was on Brace. Max did a decent job riding Knight up the court and I have no idea what Brace did or was thinking. He literally just stepped aside. The post peach-basket world has never seen a worse piece of defense than that. Another great effort spoiled

I agree. He stepped out of the way. Going with the "matador swipe" was a mistake. That being said, I don't think we can look at one bad last play and say that was the play that lost us the game. If a couple easy layups weren't missed or if Max didn't have all those turnovers, etc we wouldn't have been up by only one.
Most definitely. Every game has many plays that determine the outcome. But for a senior to make that effort at that time in that game speaks volumes about the compete level of the player. He has been an enormous disappointment this year, with rare exception. I guess I overestimated his will to win

You've impressed Towson coach Pat Skerry. On the possibility of them being a 2 and you being a 7 in the CAA Tournament, he said:

"Imagine you play well enough to finish in second place and you’ve got to play Northeastern and Billy Coen. That’s like getting a cavity removed without the novocaine."

There was a big dropout in his scoring this year. He said in an interview last week that everyone has been telling him to take more shots and I have no idea why he isn't.Things I don't question about Brace is his effort or his will to win.
