So does Jeff Jones

Yes.

This all does not bode well for the excellent season everyone was expecting next year either. With Dickens gone and Carver graduating, we are down to very little in the front court again next year, and no replacements coming in. The way things have gone with Kalu, it wouldn't be terribly surprising if he transfers after the season either.
It's been reported on local news now for Dickens as well. Both gone. wow.

That would be an overreaction. There are some talented young players on the roster. They will get better over time. This opens up 2 schollys that we can better use.

Dickens was a no brainer (cant turn down a 4 star big man that wants to transfer here), but it just didn't work out. On or off the court.

You can't be perfect in selecting players. Some would rather make excuses and jump ship.

You can't try to spin how it is not a shitshow when you lose two dudes that have started the majority of the games this season.... MID SEASON.

Oh, and you are in the midst of a 3-9 start.

Could be just that Coach. But what do I know. Maybe Jones went to them and said, guys, it just ain't working out and you should look elsewhere.

It doesn't matter which thing happened, either is bad.

There are bigger issues. There needs to be an entirely new style of play. Watching ODU basketball is too often excruciating. We need to develop an entertaining brand of basketball or we will never progress.

New style of play doesn't equal wins.

I have no problem with people that do not enjoy intricacies of the game and just want to see points, but that doesn't mean it will equal a better team and maybe not even better attendance.

The team is young right now and struggling. Clearly a rebuilding year. They will be back soon.

I enjoy the intricacies of the game. I enjoy watching UVA a lot even though they play at a slow pace. JJ's teams just play bad offense. It is not a style, or an intricacy, its just bad.

JJ lost it,when he got here. His team has been transfers in and transfers out. He is not a quality recruiter. His history of 20game wins per season, was only due to major transfers that lead the team. For a school like ODU we should recruit, at a higher level. better. Caver was the only freshman, that was quality. However Dr. Selig give JJ a nice raise and contract extension. I wonder if Dr. Selig realizes, we are in a weak league (for basketball) and also have add a cup cake schedule (OOC) this past years.

Dr Selig doesn't care how good we are at basketball. As long as the coach is good enough to keep the donors from raising a stink, he is just fine with mediocrity.

Yeah, it's not good for sure. The new college sports is to just quit and transfer (football after 4 games; basketball after the fall semester).

On the bright side, it allows us to get better players. We'll see how it affects our team going forward; this allows us more time to fill those scholarships.

Far from true.

I would say JJ can go at least this year an two more without a tournament appearance and not get fired. That would be 1 tournament appearance in, what, 9 years? JJ has been one of the two worst coaches in ODU's D-1 tenure in terms of NCAAT appearances, and there seems to be no concern at all about that. The others similar to him were fired in fewer year than JJ has coached. If that is not a slide toward accepting mediocrity, I don't know what is.

Thats if the only criteria was NCAA Tourney appearances.

Wow.

I know that JJ, without mentioning names, has been railing about the coachability of certain players. These defections make an already difficult season moreso, but I guess this is the year to have it happen. We really need a big man and a shooter/slasher.

Yep. That is the goal each year, minimum.
Caught hell for saying our over under was 18 wins for the season. Looking more like 13-15 now. I think I was the ONLY one saying Dajour would struggle with JJ's coaching demands because lacked the work ethic needed to earn court time. I guess realism is now setting in and expectations are being squashed. Hope this is addition by subtraction but it is hard to see how this is going to be helpful to our team. This also hurts next years projections as well.
This probably hurts this years team and helps next years team. Dickens knew what it took to be a Monarch off the court and did not abide by it.
Some guys are team players and some aren't. Guys transfer for different reasons, this has zero to do with JJ coaching style or playing time.
About 2 years ago UAB caught fire during the conference portion of the schedule. Without trying to be too pollyanna, I think this team has the potential to do that. If those guys weren't dedicated or happy or whatever, rip off the band-aid. There is enough talent on this team that we can be competitive.
More PT for Ezikpe (if he can stay out of foul trouble) and Reece bodes well for next year. Any update on Dimitris Karaiskos? Injured, just not ready, or a combination of both? Since he has already blown his redshirt, he might as well play and take his lumps this year to get ready for next.

Yep, this is not good. Will we win ten games? We have bean poll Reece, the gimpy can’t even play Greek guy and Zip, who is only 6’7”.

We are gonna have to learn to play wide open fast break and some zone it would seem to me.
