One of the first thing he does is get choked up and tell former coach Jerry Moore that he's always welcome "in this building".

I see why players want to run through a wall for this guy.

He wasn't welcome before?

He was but I don't think Jerry felt wanted. He was fired and Satterfield hired under some really spurious conditions so he felt hurt by it and stayed away for a while.

Next. Man. Up.
I like Clark, he definitely reps our school the right way. But I hope it’s the right call and has the right moves to move our program further up the ladder and keep our brand strengthening

I'm concerned its a "feel good" hire too but it's just something we won't know until week 6 of next year. Most App fans hadn't fully bought into Drinkwitz until the UNC game.

I was kind of hoping App would get a Summers type hire and feel our pain for a few years. Don't think that'll be happening. Looks like a solid hire in my opinion.
Thanks for posting. I like him. hope it works out for y'all, minus games against Louisiana of course.

Jerry Moore was not fired. He had agreed to step down then tried to back out on it. I'm NO fan of Charlie Cobb and he handled the thing poorly, but he made JM stick to the agreement. His biggest mistake was to not get Coach Moore to go public at the beginning of the season. Ap was moving to the Sunbelt and Coach Moore didn't want to. We had to get the new coach and staff in place tod begin recruiting FBS players. Not only was JM not welcome in the building, nobody was. Drinkwitz closed down the football wing and NOBODY had access to it. It's the only time in my 40+ years of following App football I've heard former players and supporters say they were denied access to the coaches.

I never bought into the snake oil salesman.

Whether u did or didn’t, he coached us through a 12-1 season. Everyone knows he had an ELITE team, and Shawn will have an ELITE team next year.

For our position, nationally, now is the time to have someone FIRED UP as head coach and can really push the brand. I don’t passion would be a question for Clark, but I’m curious to see his demeanor and mannerism on the sideline as the man at the helm when the cameras are on him

I've known Shawn since he came to App. As O-lineman go he was easy going and laid back, but the guy could flat out play the position. You won't see him screaming or losing it on the sidelines. That's just not his nature. I like a HC with a calm demeanor and that's one reason I liked Scott so much. You'll see much the same from Clark. One thing Shawn is that Drink wasn't is genuine. If you saw the presser yesterday you got a little insight about this past year when someone asked about Drinkwitz calling the plays. Shawn was quick to say "we helped him". Not I or me, but we.
I feel like Eli was genuine as well. Just his genuinely snarky, arrogant self. Having said that, I thank him for his service and paying us to coach here.
It will be interesting to see how Drink deals with the media once they lose a couple, he doesn’t take criticism well.

It’ll definitely be funny to watch

I never did either. Always came across as a little slippery to me and, frankly, was lucky to not ruin a great team. I am grateful for the great season, but we left sooo much on the table.
Well ****. I was the one, on here and talking to anyone that'd listen while donating money, saying Drink was gonna take us places.

Yeh he was a little snarky. He could coach. Wish him no ill will.

I'm more happy we hired Clark than I was Drink though
Right now Shawn is a feel good story, but make no mistake, if he doesn’t live up to expectations the fanbase will turn on him quickly, family member or not.

Not at all. The media guys who covered App were not upset to see him go.

Exactly. The games at unc-cheat and SC should have been double digit wins, as should the SB Championship game. So much for the offensive guru hype.
