The ODU Monarchs will play the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Lady Hawks on Sunday. ODU is 3-1 all time against UMES. And that one loss might be the team's most embarrassing loss in school history. The very first education game under KB, we lost 59-63. I want to put that game into some context. That year, UMES lost to Divisin 2 school, Elizabeth City State University. UMES was coached by Fred Batchelor. Coach Batchelor is entering his 16 year at UMES. with a 193-258 record. He has 4 winning seasons (above .500) No playoff appearances under his leadership. The furthest that this team has gone in postseason is the MEAC finals. ODU has such a glorious history in women's basketball, it was shocking to lose to this team.

This season the Hawks are 2-6. They have an RPI of 262 and a SOS of 111.

Vs Wesley College W 75-29 Division 3 school, does not factor into RPI.
@ William & Mary L 50-78 Record: 6-2 RPI: 180
@ Syracuse L 50-65 Record: 4-4 RPI: 108
@ NC Greensboro L 48-86 Record 4-4 RPI: 149
@ Va Tech L 43-86 Record: 7-1 RPI: 46
@ East Carolina L 42-57 Record: 3-6 RPI: 300
Vs Greensborro College W 65-48 Division 3 school, does not factor into RPI
Vs Richmond L 52-64 Record: 6-3 RPI: 37
@ ODU Record: 6-1 RPI: 24 SOS: 102

So far they have beat two division 3 schools. It's worth noting that D-3 schools do not offer scholarships to players.

Take UMES team stats with a grain of salt. They include the two games against D-3 schools. For example, they average 53.1 points per game. But the most that they have scored against any D-1 team is 52 points. Honestly the D-3 games make them a little bit better than they have been performing. against division one opponents.

So this should have the feel of an exhibition game for ODU. Good for the team to work on plays and give the bench some minutes. I would like to see some good minutes given to Bailey and Carter. We have a three game tournament coming up and this would be an opportunity to give our bench some experience.
This is the team that deserves our support. I will be there for sure. Let’s give the ladies a crowd they deserve. This should be an undefeated team, they are good!

Did she reinjure knee
ODU won 48-39. If there was a spread, the Monarchs did not cover it.
Perhaps the worst performance so far by our ladies, but they found a way to win. That's one strain of character you need to have to be successful.
Bravo ladies!
Their zone gave us trouble, never got the offensive flow going. Much closer than you would of thought. Marie Reichert had a great game, she's getting better each game. When she fouled out she got a very nice applause.

Doug tweeted that she was just rested this game. No new injury.
Was stunned this morning (Monday) to open The Pilot and find a small 3 inch long story on page 6 of the Sports section. We were “treated” to two stories about UVA and one from VaTech on Sports 1. All were written by staff writers. On Page 2 we were told about the Memphis coach leaving for Florida St. And so on. I know the editors of The Pilot have limited resources and must make decision they think their readers might want to read. But another obligation is to report on what happens in the paper’s back yard. ODU’s record is 7-1. That’s superior to NSU (6-3) or Hampton (2-3). On the men’s side, NSU is 3-8, Hampton 4-6 and ODU is 3-7. And don’t get me started on the 1-11 ODU football team. Seems the Monarch’s deserve more ink in our local paper, which is making itself more and more irreverent with every issue. I take the paper to keep up with what’s happening locally and if that’s not there, then i’m wasting my money.

maybe send this to the Va Pilot? Oh, not bashing, I completely agree.
I love what Nikki McCray has done to turn around the program. Yesterday highlighted that there's still a long way to go. Especially in the women's game, you live and die by the jumper. I think ODU can get back to a Top 50 program, but its going to take getting better in the frontcourt. Maybe it's because I spent so many years watching the Wendy Larry teams, but ODU is really lacking rebounding and inside scoring threats.

ODU women's basketball was covered pretty well when they were much better and the staffing situation at the Pilot was much better. Realistically, how many people are clamoring to read an ODU-UMES women's basketball story? Some, but nowhere near as many as there used to be, and with fewer options to cover it at the paper. This game would have been covered in 1999, but this surely isn't 1999.

That said, if the Monarchs continue to improve and get closer to the glory days, with a resultant spike in attendance and interest, that moves them up the coverage chart.
