I thought it would be good to have a thread to discuss potential transfer targets for what we know will be a busy off season. These are potential fits, but not an indicator that we are targeting them.

QB Caylin Newton (Grad) 6'0 195lb Atlanta, GA (Howard)
LB Iggy Reynoso (Soph) 5'11 220lb Reading, PA (Howard)
RB Khalid Dorsey (Soph) 5'11 175lb York, PA (Howard)
DB John Smith IV (Soph) 6'1 180lb (Howard) Muskogee, OK (Howard)
LB Brian Cavicante (Grad) 6'0 220lb Portsmouth, VA (Delaware St)
G/C John Harris (Fresh) 6'5 275lb Hoschton, GA (VA Tech)
London Sr following Donaven Tennyson, 5'10" 170 lb WR, from Vanderbilt. Benedictine grad (Richmond) who sat out this year at Vandy, so, he could grad transfer. His younger brother Dillon '21 visited W&M earlier in the year.
Noticed Coach Norvell from Memphis took the FSU head coaching job. He comes from the same Gus Malzahn coaching tree as Coach Marion. I wonder if
A) there may be some transfers becoming immediately available that fit the style of offense Marion runs here, or
B) Marion's well displayed ambition moves him on to Norvell's new staff. I always believed Marion's time would be short here, I just assumed it would be after lighting up the league for a few years. An up and down offensive year really didn't boost his brand, IMO. But, Marion is still a hot young name and there is a long history between him and Norvell. I guess we will see how the coaching shake ups trickle down.
"Marion's well displayed ambition." Yup. I made that point a few weeks ago. He's really ramping up Twitter posts about his offense. His resume, if you will.

Perusing the players currently in the transfer portal

I noticed that Rutgers has 8 kids already in the portal. Coach Barthel is often tied to NJ and Rutgers recruiting. I wonder if their are some relationships there.
A few ODU DBs are looking to transfer

One name I'd watch for the Auburn offensive coordinator job: Brennan Marion, currently the OC at William & Mary.

-played for Malzahn at Tulsa and set the yards per catch record under him

-has appeared at Malzahn's clinics as a coach

No way Malzahn puts his life in Marion's hands as OC. But could see him down there in a lesser capacity.

Think we can put these Marion rumors to rest for this year, as Auburn is targeting former Arkansas HC Chad Morris for the job.

Perhaps, but Auburn isn't the only job opening.
Like a poster said earlier I worry more about losing Barthel. With a Penn State assistant taking the ODU job I think that’s something to keep an eye on.
Noticed Virginia Tech WR Hezekiah Grimsley, a Williamsburg native, entered the transfer portal.

Quote from a VT blog:
"Grimsley will have one year remaining and likely will be a grad transfer who should command plenty of interest, especially from some Power 5 and just about any higher Group of 5 program looking for a proven slot receiver. It is also possible that Grimsley could transfer to a program closer to home in the 757 whether that's at Old Dominion or William & Mary in his hometown of Williamsburg, VA, in part because of the fact that his mother has been dealing with health issues fairly recently."
Another possible transfer possibility is Duke grad transfer LB/SS Jacob Morganstern
I would like to see DT/DL transfer(s).
Ishod Finger from Charlotte has entered the transfer portal (just no room on the depth chart). Loved by everyone in the fanbase and is a really fun/solid running back: https://charlotte49ers.com/sports/footba...inger/6166
Some of the recent underclass & grad transfers the coaches have been following on Twitter. No clue if there is true player interest, but certainly hints that the coaches are actively seeking transfers. Can't say that I blame them. Supplementing your classes with quality FBS transfers is the tried and true road to success by the the top FCS teams.

DB Kareem Gaulden (Stony Brook Grad)
DB Fofie Bazzie (Maryland)
DB Nolan Bernat (Illinois)
DB Jaylen Kelly-Powell (Michigan)
DB Nick McCloud (NC State Grad)
DB Bricen Garner (Pittsburgh)
DB Kyle Meyers (Florida St)

OLB Christian Bell (Wisconsin)
OLB Nolan DeFranco (UNC Grad)

TE Alexander Marshall (Florida St)

DT Xavier Kelly (Clemson)

Can't blame him. It makes sense to take a look.

Great kid and leader. I think he will land somewhere and end up with a solid career.
