Ruffin McNeal should be a target as well.
I have no idea why anyone would want Ruffin McNeill.

He knows the area, has good charisma, had success in a much stronger CUSA (now AAC), has connections on the east coast, has FBS experience...
I'd like to see Harrell, but he will most likely end up a P5 OC, possibly under Urban Meyer once SUC fires Helton. Seems like they had injuries to the QB every other week and were down to their 4th string QB for a while, yet you'd never be able to tell by the QB production, so he developed his QBs very well at least.

And he was only at SUC for a year, so he hasn't lost his soul just yet.
Just say no to Taggart.

However, John Grass is an intriguing name.
His consistant success at Jacksonville State has been nothing short of extraordinary given the size of the University and resources available.

I am somehow reminded of Jim Tressel here.
This could be a fantastic under-the-radar hire (as long as he doesn't have any affiliation with tattoo parlors 05-stirthepot).

Is also 61. Had moderate success at ECU despite the advantages they had within conference.
I say bring on the BMW and let's see what he's got.

And there is the question of how much of his success was due to Lincoln Riley.
I'd take a combo of Beamer and Zohn Burden as the OC. I like Blackwell and think he's earned another year.

That is true. OTOH, if he knows how to hire good coaches, that is a positive. But, I don't think a dinosaur works well in todays college football.

thanks!

I went ahead and did it for them. They need to just pay the $3 to VPilot.

Interesting. I had Thanksgiving with my family, which includes several JMU grads. They all support the Dukes programs and travel up for a few games each year. They also are strongly against the move up to FBS and use ODU as the prime example of why its a terrible idea. They want nothing to do with FBS football at this point.

Led ECU to prominence, now has a top rated defense at Oklahoma. Most of all he is one hell of a recruiter. I guess you still think we will win 5 games based on performance against VT and UVA. Laughable.....

The Oklahoma defensive coordinator is Alex Grinch.....and their defense isn't even good.

And led ECU to prominence? They won 1 bowl game (went to 4) in 6 years with 1 10 win season.

we had better be prepared to offer well over 1M. It is time to show we want to be a top G5 program or go back to FCS.
Going to 4 in 6 years is exactly what we need ! Now at Oklahoma ???? Asst. Head coach and Linebackers coach. I would say he is exactly what we need. Yes he is older but that can be a benefit. I would take him over several on that list.
My gut says I want Beatty/Burden---both strong recruiters with ties to the area.

As I read more, I'm sure I'll change my mind. Grass from Jacksonville St. seems interesting, as does Harrell.
Burden seems like he would be a high risk/high reward hiring. Not totally opposed by it and somewhat intrigued. My man can recruit his butt off. And he's a good dude that brings respect to the program. Does not have the resume to be a head coach at this point.

Id be OK with bowl games in 2/3rds of our seasons. Yeah, I'd like to win more than 1 of 6 bowls, but going to them is sure nice. And ECU was in harder bowl games than CUSA has now.

A wise man once told me never to make an investment you cannot afford to lose without changing your lifestyle. Maybe finances aren't as bad as we are led to believe or maybe there is a big donor ready to pay a big salary. I just hope we don't pay something we can't afford to lose on the desperation of a last ditch effort to save someone's legacy that is directly tied to a 7.5 year old decision... if you think it is bad now, just wait until that last ditch effort fails and Murphy's Law says that is likely.
