Not really. For example, if we had a conference with 10 teams, each as good as 2012 Alabama, the resulting evenness of results would best be labeled parity because its a bunch of really good teams.

If otoh we are referring to the 8 or so MAC teams this year that are all bowl eligible at 6-6 or 7-5, that eveness is ... mediocrity.

And which of these two categories do you think applies to the ACC Coastal? Here's a hint - barring an upset of biblical proportions, the Atlantic Division champion is going to win its 9th consecutive ACC championship game...

That's really interesting. I haven't checked, but I'll bet that's the first time the division championship has done a full cycle through all the teams in the division, one per year.

Hint 5 of the last 7 years the Atlantic Champion played in the BCS Championship / BCS Playoffs.

While true- the Coastal division's records
Miami 55-34 4.86 losses per year
Va Tech 55-36 5.14 losses per year
Duke 50-39 5.57 losses per year
Pittsburgh 48-41 5.86 losses per year
Ga Tech 45-42 6.00 losses per year
UNC 42-45 6.43 losses per year
Virginia 36-50 7.14 losses per year

I'd say that fits Quo's definition of mediocrity to a T.

During the same span

Clemson 87-9 1.3 losses per year
FSU 65-25 3.7 losses per year

For most of the last 7 years, everyone else in the Atlantic started with 2 losses.

NC State has been 47-39
Louisville has been 42-32 or 7-5 (6 years)
BC has been 43-44
WF has been 40-46
Syr has been 36-49

what does that have to do with the Coastal? If anything it makes it worse.

Only ones that have them as a rival are Ga Tech and Miami. Others played them from 1-3 times.
What it has to do with the Coastal is that it shows that if you are a school other than Clemson or FSU, you want to be in the Coastal.

The top of the Atlantic has been on average 2 games better than the top of the Coastal for these last 7 years. Or put another way, Louisville, Syracuse, and NC State could have easily won a Coastal title if not having to play both Clemson and FSU in division.

What looks like parity in the Coastal, is a lack of parity between the Coastal and the Atlantic.

Outside those other 2(and Frankly to include FSU the last few years- 18-18 last 3 years)- the whole conference is mediocre.

In this case it is both. Doesn’t have to be strictly one or the other.
What's really mediocre is that the Coastal Champ the last 7 years has finished with average of 4.4 total losses for the season.

In the same span the B10 West champ has averaged 2.2 total losses and the SEC East champ has averaged 2.7.

True. But ACC fans will say look at our wonderful parity. Sorry- you're just a mediocre bunch.
My cousin attended GaTech

My sister ... UNC

My nephew in-law attends ... UofPitt

The Coastal division ... a mess.
The winner each year was no worse than 4-2 with their in-division games. The conference champion was either Florida St or Clemson in each of these years (actually going back to 2011). Neither Virginia nor Virginia Tech beat any of the division winners during this 7-year span.

2013 - Duke, 4-2 (Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh)
2014 - Georgia Tech, 4-2 (Duke, North Carolina)
2015 - North Carolina, 6-0
2016 - Virginia Tech, 5-1 (Georgia Tech)
2017 - Miami, 5-1 (Pittsburgh)
2018 - Pittsburgh, 4-2 (North Carolina, Miami)
2019 - Virginia, 5-1 (Miami)
