A cursory look at their board and home box scores reveals that home attendance has barely cracked 1k for a game and tonight they drew less than 800. Our guys are used to playing road games in front of thousands of empty seats so they won’t be intimidated. Since these guys are from the mighty Sun Belt should this be classified as a money game for us?
The Arkansas Little Rock Trojans are rated about 20 spots better than App State, #152 in Kenpom. They are basically another mid pack D1 team that can hurt you on a good night, especially at home where they are undefeated despite low attendance. We are playing a better team than App State, at their place.

They’re 5-3 on the year. Best win is their first game, on the road @ #147 Missouri State 67-66. Two of their 3 losses are to excellent teams: @ #42 Memphis 68-58, and @ #41 NC State 74-58. The worst loss was a close one @ #202 Illinois State 75-70, a team which was good enough to beat Belmont.

Point totals are lower than average on both offense and defense. Average game is 67.5 – 63.0. They don’t shoot well from 3, averaging .277 (.320th in D1) with only 4.5 makes per game (282nd in D1). Nowell (.333 with 2.1 makes) and Coupet (.440 with 1.4 makes) are the only guys averaging above 0.5 makes from 3 per game. But they are better at scoring from 2, .498 (188th in D1) with 19.3 makes (35th in D1).

Rebounding is very good: +6.2, about the same as ETSU +6.4.

Turnovers are high on both offense and defense. They force 15.9 t.o.’s per game compare to 15.3 for ETSU. Steals are about 7.9 per game compared to 8.2 for the Bucs. The Trojans make about 16.8 t.o.’s compared to 14.3 for the Bucs. Trojans have a net -1, Bucs a net +1.1.

They also foul a lot, 19.4 per game, around 313th in D1. Their 2 best bigs are foul prone: 6-10 Monyong with 3.4 and 6-8 Kamani Johnson with 3.3. So take it at them and make your free throws, Bucs.

Their leader is 5-8 165 Soph. Markquis Nowell, with 20.4 ppg, 4.8 rebounds (at 5-8!), 4.5 assists and 3.3 steals. He NEVER leaves the floor, averaging 39.3 minutes.

They have a front line with length (7-0, 6-10, two 6-8’s and a 6-7 in the rotation) if not much heft: best rebounders are 6-10 190 Monyong (9.3), 6-8 195 Kamani Johnson (7.5) and 6-7 185 Ben Coupet (6.4). Nobody weighing over 205 gets over 7.1 minutes. There is also length at guard to balance the quickness of guards like Nowell. No wonder that they want to work the ball inside.

So, weak 3 point shooting, emphasis on 2 point scoring, good rebounding, good steals and lots of turnovers on both ends. Against App State the strategy of letting a weak 3 point shooting team fire away from 3 worked in the first half, but they started hitting some in the second.

Bottom line is that they are a little better than App State and we are playing at their place, where they can hurt you. Bucs should not underestimate this team.

Kenpom predicts a close one - Bucs by 3, 68-65!

And hopefully Bucs being fully rested will be the winning edge for us. We are going to have to play well to win there. Is Jeromy going to play?
Worried about this one. UA-LR has historically been a strong program, and I think swvabucsfan gives a good overview. They're normally fast and athletic, if flawed (as his analysis hints at). Not to mention, it's about time for us to stumble, right? 03-shhhh

I have bad flashbacks of Little Rock beating Purdue in the tournament several years ago when Chris Beard was their coach.

I don't have flashbacks, but I feel a little tinge of pain when I hear Ark-Little Rock. Purdue is in a much better place now than then, so it doesn't bug me as much.
This would be another good Buc win especially being on the road.
Looks like Jeromy is playing

Good to see he is all right.
.....and good to see "good seats still available"....
Nowell is going to be a problem - both for ETSU and UA-LR.
Both teams look awful

Offensively. Defensively, they both look very good. UA-LR maybe a tad better.

[edit: I think the Trojans may be doing a better job of preventing Hodges's paint penetrations than any team we've played this year - and that would include Kansas. Fortunately he's stroking it from deep.]

No offense intended, as I also thought "Tim Smith" initially. But Smith had tons more talent, skill, and even a bit more speed than Nowell.
I’m tiring of N’Guessan. So many missed layups where he should just dunk it. He lacks having any aggression. Corley is better IMO.
