Kenpom rates App State much higher at #174, right in the middle of D1, with a better than average 118th on defense.
4-3 App State is #174 in Kenpom, smack in the middle of D1. Defense is a good 118th according to KP, offense is worse at 249th. They beat East Carolina (home), Tennessee Tech (neutral) and Charlotte (home). They lost by 8 at #24 Michigan in the first game of the season. They also lost to Montana State (as did UNCG), and were beaten soundly by UNCG in Greensboro, 55-41, although making it a contest early. The 64-55 win over Charlotte at home is their most recent game. Charlotte BTW is an odd team, beating very good Davidson and Wake Forest teams at home, but losing to average App State and JMU teams on the road.

Their games are very low scoring with an average of 64.6-59.0. Bucs will probably want to make this a faster pace than the Mountaineers would like. Forbes has mentioned moving the ball faster in the half court offense. But he also wants to reduce turnovers.

Good defense holds opponents to .444 2pt% (99th in D1) and a fine .280 3pt% (67th in D1) with 7.0 makes. They are top notch (16th in D1) forcing opponents turnovers at 16.1 per game. But they make a lot of turnovers themselves, 303rd in D1 with 14.7. So they come out ahead with a turnover margin of +1.4.

Rebounding margin is +1.1.

Offense is weaker: an average.504 (177th in D1) 2pt%, and a weak .278 3pt%, 315th in D1, with only 5.3 makes, 215th in D1. They still put them up, with 3’s attempted at an above average rate (134th in D1) 19.1 per game. The only big who shoots 3’s is 6-9 Isaac Johnson and he’s at .286 with 0.6 makes.

So low scoring, solid defense, weak offense, lots of t.o.’s on both sides.

Kenpom has Bucs a 73-61 favorite. But the Mountaineers are able to put a scare into Michigan, and beat a Charlotte team that Davidson and Wake Forest couldn’t. A middle of the pack
D1 team that can hurt you on a good night.

Guards:
#1 6-2 195 Jr Justin Forrest, 29.4 minutes, 16.4 ppg on .238 from 3 (1.4 makes), 5.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 2.9 t.o.’s, 3.4 fouls
#20 6-3 185 So Adrian Delph, 30.9 minutes, 10.1 ppg on .355 from 3 (1.6 makes), 6.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 2.6 t.o’s
#4 5-11 190 Sr O’Showen Williams, 24.1 minutes, 7.4 ppg on .368 from 3 (1.0 makes), 2.6 reb, 1.0 assists, 1.3 t.o.’s, 1.9 steals
#10 6-3 175 Jr Michael Bibby, 20.0 minutes, 4.4 ppg on .250 from 3 (0.6 makes), 2.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.4 t.o.’s
#11 6-5 190 Fr Donovan Gregory, 5 of 7 games, 11.8 minutes, 3.6 ppg on no 3’s, 2.2 rebounds, 0.4 assists

Forwards:
#0 6-9 212 Sr Isaac Johnson, 32.4 minutes, 9.9 ppg on .286 from 3 (0.6 makes), 7.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.6 t.o.’s, 2.1 steals
#50 6-9 235 Sr Hunter Seacat, 19.9 minutes, 5.3 ppg on no 3’s, 3.0 rebounds, 0.7 assists
#2 6-7 180 Fr Kendall Lewis, 16.3 minutes, 4.7 ppg on only 1 made 3 (.111), 3.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.9 steals
#21 6-8 215 So James Lewis Jr., 17.3 minutes, 3.4 ppg on no 3’s, 3.3 rebounds, 0.6 assists 0.9 steals
Obviously I will take a 1 point win, but I hope we beat the crap out of them and make them like it.

Like the proverbial rented government mule.
Any news about Jeromy? Hope he is ok and good to go.
ETSU a 12 point favorite.
Anybody else hear Coach Forbes on the radio this morning? We had to pay App to come play.

Yes the synopsis that BigIsland put up yesterday said that we had to pay them for this game.
I think we had to pay them a little for them to start the home and home series in Johnson City. I am okay with paying a little for mid majors to come here, we really need the decent games. I would also be okay with doing 2-1 deals with quality mid-majors to get them to come here rather than straight home and homes. Sure we would have more away games most years, but I would rather have away games against good competition than Milligan or Mars Hill at home.

I expect us to win this game by 15+ points, with or without Jeromy.
We should never have paid App to come here. We just cost a track athlete a scholarship. /sarcasm

Well, I *have* always wondered what the deal is with who travels first. Does it really matter that much? Is it perceived as an ego thing? And I don't mean personal ego, but 'ego', or status, in terms of prestige for the university or program? Seriously............this has come up several times since Forbes has been here. I have no idea; just wondering.
And really...............if it was some considerable amount of money, I'd agree with your statement. Is it possibly related to some hypothetical chance that next year we could "buy out" our game in Boone to instead play, say, Clemson on that date?
An interesting ticket development:

While I was away for lunch, U11 and U17 sold out. Hopefully this is something university related and not some sort of App student deal.

I hope so. I'm a bit concerned about it being the 3rd game in 4 days and not having Jeromy available might make this game a nail biter.

Is Jeromy not available?

Hopeful thinking here, but maybe the online student ticket pickups have been stronger than expected?

With Thanksgiving break coming? I doubt it. Who knows though.
