Memphis is Calling

this development [so far] has expanded in scope, they seem to be ready to invest a bunch of money downtown and expect a nice reward!$$$$

This and Union Row will transform Downtown. hell, even one of them would transform downtown......
This project will have a better than average chance of happening since it seems to be aligning itself with some St. Jude development.

I am somewhat concerned that the core of downtown buildings will continue to slide if the proposed new office space options will be on the north (Pinch) and south side (Union Row). What with Raymond James recently leaving their tower there is now a lot of vacant space in downtown.

I thought that Raymond James was recently appeased with a PILOT agreement with the city.

The area between Danny Thomas and UT Med seems to be picking up with new business. Any plan going on or is that just natural spinoff from downtown?

The part between AutoZone Park and the Edge district definitely feels like a natural spinoff from downtown (especially the Wonder Bread redevelopment), and flows pretty well with the projected Union Row development.

It'll be interesting to see what happens to the old Commercial Appeal building. I hope for a higher education purpose for it, but my expectations are low.

The pilot was awarded to assist their arrival east, and their remaining in the city, I believe.

So much going on through the center city. Downtown and Midtown as anchors. South Main is just incredible. The Pinch has lagged behind but you could see the potential.

Yeah, Intrator has been a shot in the arm, accumulating all of those Pinch properties and also many South Main properties as well, including the Royal Furniture bldg that will become a 12 story hotel.

St Jude is in the middle of a $1-2 billion expansion, Union Row just increased to roughly $1.1 billion, and Pinch is in that $1.1 billion range as well. Snuff District, Clipper, the Loews hotel and the convention center remodel are in the $200 million range each (I believe).

One Beale, Brooks new museum, and Intrator's non-Pinch interests are in the $100 million range each. This isn't counting the redevelopments of Wonder Bread, Central Station, the half dozen or so boutique or small hotels, 4 or 5 breweries (edit: 4 -- Wiseacre #2 in S. Main, Memphis Made #2 in the Edge, Grind City and Soul & Spirits in Uptown), finishing up Tennessee Brewery and rehabbing Clayborn. I don't know if anything is moving forward by the Ornamental Metal Museum other than the rehab of the marine hospital into apartments, but all of the above is just between the river and Sun Studios.

Overton Square is building a hotel, the Fairgrounds continues its indefinite holding pattern, construction continues by the U of M campus, Germantown is considering a Carrefour mixed use redevelopment and Lakeland is doing its Lake District stuff. West Memphis may finally be able to capitalize on having Southland next to the interstate and the bike trails nearby.
The large area of vacant land south of the Forum needs to be built-in. I suspect Union Row might spark something there.

You would think at some point Kroger or Whole Foods would be viable downtown given the number of residents living there now. That would be a perfect spot for one.

St Jude families could likely keep one afloat on their own. Edit: at the very least add steady revenue to a grocery store.

It will become prime land at the intersection of the new Clipper and Union Row developments, and Clayborne Temple renovation.

My wife has a friend from east TN who's daughter was at St Jude. They'd go to West Memphis to grocery shop because they were afraid to get out in the city. I tried to explain that WM isn't much safer, if at all. lol
Was reading the info on Union Row and one of the first things built is going to be a grocery store. Did not say who was going to run it.
Kroger click list is one of the greatest things ever created. It ranks up there w/ gated communities and caller ID. My wife said Kroger is supposedly doing free delivery thru Christmas. Delivery would be even better than click list
Our guy is helping build Union Row. Says he wants to bring a Shake Shack in. That's all my fatass needs.
In all seriousness: these two projects would dramatically change the city. Then add in the convention centers current construction, One Beale, and if I remember correctly, work in that City Hall area. The city could look dramatically different in 2022.

I'd eat at Shake Shack once a week.

If downtown gets a Kroger and a Target on top of these projects we will see the core get much more dense than any of us have ever seen in our lives regardless of generation.

Yeah that's the one thing you haven't seen down there yet. I'd assume they want to see some investment, cranes, and people before Kroger or Target say, "let's put super stores there." Makes sense. And you're right - would be very dense over the span of St. Jude to South Main.
I would like to see an 18k soccer specific stadium built as a part of this project for 901 FC.

But that is a pipe dream.
