We have 2 weeks off before NIU and NIU has TWO games before our game. Tomorrow night vs. Toledo should be a good opportunity for us fans to get educated on their team. I know Bowers at QB (2 year starter at Cal) can be scary. Aaawww...screw it! Enjoy tonight’s win. More to come on NIU later.
I don’t fear them anymore. Fleck finally busted their mystique. We almost beat them two seasons ago and we couldn’t complete a pass longer than 10 yards. Funny things happen in DeKalb, but this team is ready to throttle them after a needed break.

Fleck went 1-3 against NIU during his time.

...and beat NIU his final season in 2016. That game knocked the proverbial NIU "monkey" off the back of Fleck and WMU program and proved team, and magical season, were for real. It was a tough game, but a convincing win with some "You Gotta Be Kidding Me?!" highlights.

Speaking of "You Gotta Be Kidding Me?!" and convincing wins, only CMU could offer uniforms that actually made WMU's grey ones look good.

Corey Davis' catch at 6:10 was the back-breaker that game.

Oh, and The Cannon Trophy is doing well at its home in Kalamazoo.

Hence the "finally" part, including the last few seasons of Cubit's tenure.

Oh my mistake, I read "finally" as in "someone finally beat NIU", not WMU specifically.
WMU should be fresh for NIU game after long awaited break in schedule. We have to be banged up pretty good.
Need those Rockets to lose at least 1 of 3
The looked like the worst team in the West when we played them. It was over at the end of the 1st quarter. As much as I'd love for you guys to slip up since we need another loss from you, I just don't see it happening. A lot of things would have to go wrong for you not to beat them.

No no, keep saying it!

C'mon 007...do you REALLY want Toledo or CMU in over Western??? We've let you kick our butts for most of the last 20 years!

PS-I will most definitely be pulling for you guys tonight!!!

Yes, but we lost a game at home 2 years prior we SHOULD have won. Oh gawd that still hurts.

Fleck needed our undefeated team to beat NIU (at home). And it was still a relatively close game in a DOWN YEAR for NIU. I don't think Fleck "exposed" them that year. It was one of the last games of the season, and NIU already showed that year they were on their way down.

Still don't know why, Temple hired butt-crack-showing/lunch-pail Rod Carey. That said, NIU's new HC should have expected to not have a better year than Carey this year, and NIU wouldn't have been expected to be "grand" this year at all (although a West contender, Yes).

We'll know whether NIU will get back on track near the end of the year last year, looking at how they're performing then. To Carey's credit -- he could take an NIU team who's just as vulnerable as anyone else to lose to a .500 or better MAC team, but still have a habit of pulling out a MAC West crown. So I could see how another mid-major would take him -- although kinda surprised by TEMPLE doing that, with their $$ and on the slightly upper side of the AAC. I would have thought that about a lower-end AAC team or blah CUSA team that happened to have some good finances from alumni (to overcome NIU pay + him willing to adjust).
We need to stop acting like some venues are impossible to win at. I guess that's fine for some P5 stadiums like The Big House & Buckeye Stadium, but SHOULD NEVER apply to MAC venues. Bill Cubit broke the losing streak in Mount Pleasant in a down year. Since then, we've dominated the Chippewas at their place, a place that until Cubit broke in a 4-8 season was deemed impossible to win at.

I'm not terrified of NIU like a lot of people on here are, even in DeKalb.

Beat them in 2016 & 2018, and damn well came close in 2015 & 2017. They're not some 'we'll never beat them' team, and, honestly, they stink this year. That being said, the team needs to take them seriously in 2 weeks as there's still FBS talent on that team that won a MAC Championship barely a year ago.

But yes, I agree a lot of 'I miss Fleck' people on here forget PJF finished an abysmal 1-3 vs the Huskies.
I don't think we'll be able to count on NIU beating the Rockets tonight - NIU looks really bad.
NIU just scored a TD though. :)
Huskies playing better then what they started. Rockets offense struggling.

Huskies 7
Rockets 7
NIU’s QB looks pretty darn good to me.
Both of them!
TD AGAIN! LOL
Daaaaaaaaamn. Huskies TOUCHDOWN

NO MATTER WHAT: WE CAN"T TAKE A WIN VS NIU AS A GUARANTEE

Huskies 14
Rockets 7
