It's almost time again. I know the loss last year is still stinging.

How do you expect your Blazers to do this year? Troy obviously hired Scott Cross, the former HC at UT-Arlington. He's energized the fan base up in ways we haven't seen since our A-Sun days. There's going to be a pretty large student turnout for this.

We lost a lot of players to transfer and graduation. Varnado, Hicks, and a couple others have graduated. SF Javan Johnson transferred to Iowa State. Four others either transferred to JUCO or Division II programs, or quit altogether.

The only positive with all the transfers was that Cross was able to bring in a lot of his own players immediately. He recruited as far as Texas, to New York, to Florida. I've never seen a Troy coach recruit outside of Georgia, Alabama, and Florida. Cross brought in a lot of bigs. We're a young team with only 1 senior. We have a transfer that'll be fully eligible to play this year in F Davion Thomas, who was one of Kermit's players at MTSU.

We don't really know what to expect from Troy except that Cross will run an aggressive defense like he did at UTA.

Looking forward to the game.
We still have the same coaching staff, so If you have good shooters expect us to leave them open. If you clog the lane to stop the dribble drive on D, expect us to kick the ball out to wide open players who can’t hit the three and have no business standing out there.
Hopefully if we lose ehsan isn’t allowed back to bham

LOL. My only comment is Don't Lose.

If we can shoot >35% from 3, we'll be pretty good. Good enough to beat anyone in CUSA.

Couldnt contain my laughter at lunch, reading this.
Thanks
This will likely be Ehsans last time coaching a game at Troy. Hope he enjoys the trip!

Fixed 04-rock
This Troy team is a bottom dweller in the belt. We’re 6 point faves on the road, ehsan shouldn’t screw this up
Men's basketball games will be on 100.5 FM in the B'ham area. Tonight's game also will be televised on ESPN+.

A jinx of impeccable quality. *chef's kiss*
Damn, we ain’t even started the season yet, and folks already got their pitchforks out.

Look at it this way: on our worst day we have around 20,000 at UAB football games. The UAB men's basketball core has dwindled to a couple thousand hardy individuals. That leaves a pretty large number of very interested UAB fans that aren't inclined to come see our basketball team and they have opinions too.

If this season goes south, that chorus is going to become a crescendo.

What qualifies as going south for this team?

That's a good question. Losing to Troy would be really bad way to start. Losing any home game OOC that's not Memphis shouldn't happen. If we get embarrassed at any point of the season.

No NIT or NCAA should = pink slip.

NCAA is probably out of the question barring some big run in the conference tourney - WKU and La Tech are too good on offense for us to keep up I bet. Win total in the regular season could be 15-18 games - not sure the NIT takes us if that's the case.
Last time we got invited to the NIT it took 26 wins. The time before that it took 25 wins.

I'm going to channel my inner Nostradmus here and predict we don't sniff 25 wins. You can safely scratch the NIT off the list.

Teams get hot in conference tournaments and sneak into the big dance every year, but its almost always well coached teams, and that's not us. You can pretty safely scratch the NCAA tournament off the list too.

There are enough terrible teams on the schedule so that he we can maybe scratch out another 20 win season, but 16-18 wins is more likely.
Idk. I’ll be more surprised if we don’t have 25 wins this season barring injury. We can agree to disagree.
