Tough news out of Phoenix. Both Oscar Frayer and Jaylen Fisher were ruled academically ineligible for the Fall semester by the NCAA.

That’s not their biggest problem. Dancing is already insufferable on this site. The gloating is gonna reach epic levels after tonight. 03-puke
New Mexico State played without AJ Harris, and Terrell Brown, yet still won by 46 tonight. GCU just lost to a DII school that just moved up from NAIA.
This was as bad a loss as UMBC beating Virginia. In terms of just sheer implausibility.

Sadly there just isn’t anything to say to defend it. Just have to hope the guys play better and get enough wins to make up for it.
With all due respect, GCU is the closest thing we have to a rival in the WAC, so I root for them to lose. But man, this is gonna kill the WAC rankings and not do NMSU any favors in terms of SOS and NET rankings. Bummer. [/u]
Did the 4* TCU guy play tonight?

No. That’s Fisher. He’s one of the two who can’t play this semester due to academic issues. Couldn’t get the waiver.

I thought that non-DI did not count towards SOS and NET.

Excellent question. I know it doesn't count for wins. Not sure about losses.

Thanks, didn't know his name.
I feel the return of Oscar Frayer and the addition of Jaylen Fisher should help GCU some. But the Lopes have a problem on the boards and with their interior defense this season. Lever just hasn't developed into the dominant force that looked promising his freshman season. Even with his weight loss for speed and agility, he hasn't not developed into the defensive anchor who can locks down the paint. GCU got out rebounded by 3 last night. And, Lever finished with only 3 rebounds in 37 minutes of play. This is going be an interesting season for GCU. If they can't rebound, they will need to really depend heavily on a high shooting percentage from their guards and creating turnovers for extra possessions.

He tends to get a cheap foul or two and then plays timid. He tips the ball and bats at it... doesn’t grab it and go up with authority and try to dunk it.

It’s gonna be a long year if we can’t develop an inside game in a hurry. Also... our guards are not showing they can hit shots from behind the arc. We started out 1-12 shooting. Missed about 20 3’s last night.

Best bet is to drive the ball into the lane and draw contact or get an easy shot. Carlos Johnson has been doing that. Isaiah Brown and Javon Blacksher have both had success doing that.

Love how your trashing GCU on Aggie Alert but on here you pander to the GCU guys on this message board. Granted, the GCU guys that post here are all great guys but still. Don’t be a hypocrite. If you don’t like my post, I suggest u hit ignore instead of whining about my post
So, has anyone heard anything about Jaylen Fisher? He doesn’t sit with the team during games. When Barry B calls the games, he says when “Mikey Dixon and Oscar Frayer” becomes eligible”.

Are they very quietly letting us forget about him as if they know he won’t be able to play anytime soon? I checked his Twitter and he still has GCU graphics pinned to his feed.

Fisher's name has not been publicly spoken or written by anyone GCU since he was ruled academically ineligible, nor has he been at a single game. I'm going out on a limb and assuming he is no longer on the team.
Sometimes landing a big fish in a small pond type of recruit is too good to be true. Can’t believe he got preseason all-WAC accolades just by transferring. Didn’t even take one step on the court and they assumed he’d dominate.

Hoping Oscar is in game form and ready to provide a boost. I’m anxious to see what Dixon does too. I really miss the impact and maturity Drecshel brought to the team immediately last year. Sure he only had a year but he was a great role player and was a positive contributor. Hoping Dixon is similar in terms of immediate help.

The same Drechsel who consistently fell apart in pressure situations? The same "don't pick up Johnny McCants and give up the buzzer-beater in LC" Drechsel?

Nah, I'm good.
Dan just complimented him as part of the toughness guys from last year. Maybe I have rose tinted glasses. I just remember there were times Milstead looked shaky and Drecshel had more poise.

Ugh. McCants. Still too soon.
