I don’t think there’s an issue either. He spent some extra time on our conference opponents which is more important.

I don’t Understand how people think his comments are a non Issue. I have never heard a coach say what he did. But I have heard a lot of successful coaches say the next game is the most important, we don’t need to look past our next opponent etc. Well he looked past his next opponent. Hypothetically Couldn’t Southern Miss sustain an few Injuries to some starters and make all the preparation Clark did for them obsolete? Then the bigger question is why even make the comment? it’s a terrible excuse. My goal for UAB football someday is to win every single game and get that New Years Day at large bid. If Bill Clark wants to put more of an emphasis on conference games then he really has taken us as far as he can or wants too. UAB has already won a CUSA championship. The next logical step for US is to continue to do that but also upset some P5 schools and eventually move up to the American conference. That’s my hopes for UAB if Bill Clark does that great. But from what it sounds like from his quote that’s not his goal.He gets paid over a million a year doesn’t he have an obligation to try his best to win every Game? Well, he just admitted he didn’t do that and that doesn’t upset you at all as a UAB fan? It was seriously embarrassing. And if you asked those players during the bye week what game was the most important to them? The would have said the next game Tennessee.

BECAUSE THATS WHAT BYE WEEKS ARE FOR! Game week is for preparing for the weeks game. Bye weeks are for working on things you don't have time for during game weeks. the real issue is most UAB fans are SEC bammer wannabes. So we couldn’t beat a mediocre sec team and still win the conference like Boise and central Florida. Welp we better beat the golden eagles and win this conference since to some it’s the most important game.
if we don't beat USM, I hope some of you fake fans will go away and return being the bammers/barners you really are.

Those of us that really support UAB, want that trophy. in 200 years, nobody is going to remember beating LSU or Tennesse but those trophies never turn to dust....
Focusing on one post game comment is making a mountain out of a molehill. Just my opinion.

I do think we need a change in our offense but that sure can't be done mid-season.

Everyone needs to calm down.

There is a better chance than if we had spent the entire off week focusing on UT.

Something you can't take away from Watson, he did beat his fair share of P5 opponents.
WKU must have been real important. It was a conference game. So important that you wouldn’t pull someone with 4 ints nor play your better running backs.

“It’s ok. If we’re gonna lose to someone, I’d prefer it be former UAB guys”

Look, now we’ve got an excuse to lose to FAU in hoops this season.

————————

I’m not really upset with any players. I’m upset that we can’t run a decent Oline out there when the 1s come out or aren’t available and that we run the most simplistic offense in the country. We don’t put our athletes on the field, nor use them properly when they get an opportunity. Even the commentators for the UT game said our passing game from 0-15 yards was non-existent and has been.

Right nobody remembers UAB beating Nick Saban, or miss st when they show a graphic every sec game we play. Like 2-30ish vs the sec
In fairness, Clark admitted he’s primarily with the Defense in practice and meetings and they looked prepared for Tennessee. So, I’m assuming the O spent last week on USM?. Good, 3 weeks of offensive work on USM. We should be well prepared this weekend.

Nobody is really bashing Bill Clark. I’m calling out the one thing he hasn’t gotten fixed, The Offense. Injuries happen, and you should have recruited well enough and have those back ups ready to keep things running smoothly when they occur.

That was 2004. I'm talking about remembering that win in 2075. Who? what?
That trophy case is 1000000000% more important.

its a big deal when a baby takes it first step. its a much bigger deal to have a college degree. (you probably won't understand the analogy, don't get a headache thinking about it though)

So UAB doesn’t have time to prepare for Southern Miss this week? Also this is Jay Hopson’s 4th season at Southern Miss, Bill Clark should already have a jump start on preparing for them since we have played them every year. The point of a bye week is to get healthy and to prepare extra for the next game especially a team you have never played before, not a game 3 weeks from then. And fine UAB didn’t prepare extra for Tennessee. Are you okay with Bill Clark using the “we didn’t prepare for them during the bye week as an excuse?” Because that’s what it was a lame excuse. And please explain to all of us what a SEC Bammer wannabe is? Because if it’s a fan who wants the best for their school, wants them to keep getting better, & thinks the head coach has an obligation to try their best to win every game. Then I guess I’m a SEC bammer wannabe.

Yeah I do have a question. Take a look back at the schedules Watson, Calloway even McGee had. If UAB had that schedule now how many games would they win? UCF, Marshall, ECU, Memphis Southern Miss, & UAB in the East. The West was Houston, SMU, Tulsa, Tulane, Rice, UTEP. was the west. And in two sometimes even 3 P5 money games how many do they win? And If you go back to Watson’s time you could add in Louisville, TCU, USF & Cincinnati. Take any team Bill Clark has ever had and input them into an old schedule how many games does he win? Just pick a random year & give him that schedule now with this team or last years team, how many games does he win?

I hear what you're sayin' about the schedule but it also has to be recognized that half of those Watson era players couldn't get in UAB now. UAB is a different school, almost literally. Give Bill Clark the roster Watson had to go against that schedule. Watson also didn't have a decade of losing seasons. Early 2000's our football culture may not have been wholesome but it wasn't losing.

I think we need some changes on O but the head coach is a winner. We're lucky to have him.

I'm pretty sure the bold is your definition of how a bye week should be applied. Maybe not all coaches approach a bye week in the same manner as you have stated.

Just sayin'......
Maybe I had a bit too much egg nog before the Tennessee game, but I think it isn't without the silver lining. Our defense is absolutely incredible. I know UT is a "bottom feeder" but our defense stood toe to toe with them most of the night. Super aggressive, super fast. If we can get rid of the stupid penalties, I would feel safe saying that our defense is absolutely elite.

Our offense though. That causes me some serious angst. We have the best WR trio in UAB history and they are being utterly wasted with outdated, predictable play calling. I think we have seen Vincent's ceiling, and it is running the same vanilla running plays out of congested formations, middle school playground style "just outrun the guy!" passing plays, and screens that just don't make sense. That will be enough for us to be in the top 4 of a poor conference, and maybe win a title every 5 or years or so if our defense can continue to be elite.

I just don't see how he adapts his game plan at all to anyone we play. that is the most discouraging part of it. Last year when we had a dominating O-Line, we could just line up and whip the other guy across from us to get 4 yards and a cloud of dust. That just doesn't work this year, so we need to be creative with attacking other teams bad tendencies. We will never take the next step with Vincent on the staff.

Last thing I'll say: I'm going to break a lamp in my apartment next time I see a flare pass to a TE. Best case scenario that is a 5 yard gain, worst case it's a 2 yard loss. I liked it with Donnie Lee last year, but it is played out.

He is a great defensive coach I’m not denying that. But then I’ll ask you this question. If Bill Clark doesn’t make a change at OC and UAB doesn’t make the next step in the next 3years do you keep him around? Because ultimately it is us the fans, boosters etc. that set the agenda for UAB. He is the CEO we are the stockholders. We hold him accountable and he must meet our expectations. When I say I’m upset with his comments, I’m just holding him accountable for something dumb he said. If I was the AD or a major booster giving UAB millions of dollars I would have contacted him Immediately and said let’s not ever say that publicly again. Let’s put out an image that we try our best to win every game. And that they are all important. I don’t think that’s to much to ask from a head coach making 7 figures a year. If Bill Clark doesn’t think he owes UAB and it’s fans that then he doesn’t need to be here.
