Just left a luncheon that featured Coach Forbes as the speaker. Here are some quick takes:

1. Mike Young wanted nothing of the scrimmage made public. Coach Forbes would not tell the final score and said “we tied” in a sarcastic manner. From how he spoke it was clear we not only won, but won with some room to spare. He said we got a big lead in the first half then kind of cruised through the second— which he didn’t like. Lucas was our leading scorer, Good only played about 5 minutes, Jeromy didn’t play, and “Corley dominated with shot blocking, scoring, and jumping”.
2. Speaking of Jeromy, he will play on Friday. Also, although some have raised doubt about his surgery type, it was for plantar fasciitis. Coach said the Charlotte Hornets doctor met with Jeromy about a month ago and it made all the difference.
3. Seasons ticket sales have surpassed the high water mark.
4. He broke down the roster and schedule (I’ll comment after work if someone wants to know what he said about a particular player). He did say that Brewer was probably the most talented player on the roster.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share. I'd love to hear as much as you've got on any and all roster players.

Guess Ledarrius gives us a little something to look forward to next year.

The scrimmages probably wouldn't happen at all if there wasn't some level of secrecy. But it is frustrating for fans. However with perhaps our best player sitting out (Jeromy), and our most consistent shooter (Patrick) limited in his action, I'd say even an actual "tie" would be a generally successful performance. Let alone a sarcastic, "not really" tie.

Thanks again for sharing.
I'm fascinated to hear the words "Corley dominated". Now I fully expect to see Corley assert himself in the Bucs next 2 outings versus Limestone and Newberry. But against Tech? That's good news!
I'd love to know what he said about the players as well if you have time. I'm dying for some basketball news.
Those words from Forbes jibe with what I've been hearing (and to some degree writing) about both Corley and Brewer. I'll say again that "explosive" is a good description of how Brewer likes to play. Justin Tubbs comes to mind, altho Brewer I believe is more hole-oriented. Maybe more of a Tubbs/Bo hybrid? And some of you who haven't been hep to Corley's game will have your eyes opened. The only thing is it's possible those eye-opening points in time could be limited, depending on how the overall team goes. Too early to say. But those juco videos we saw of him were not a charade. He and Bo like to play 2-man stuff.

Just wish Forbes had "announced" during the season last year that Corley was redshirting. Would have made some of the discussions back then clearer. He did state (eventually) that they were seeking a medical redshirt for him, but (to my knowledge) never gave the status of that request.
Thanks for sharing 06'. I'd be interested to hear any and all info you can recall from the luncheon. A couple of players in particular are the freshmen Monsanto and Weber and the Sr transfer Hughley. TIA
Tray Boyd- Forbes said he’s transformed this year not only on the court but between the eyes. Said they butted heads a lot last year but that Tray has finally figured out that Forbes has the hardest head on the team.
Bo Hodges- Cracked a joke that with the new NCAA rule, that he was trying to get Bojangles to do a Bo promo. Said that he’s really improved his ball handling and could run the point some this year.
Daivien Williamson- Has challenged him to become an all-league player.
Patrick Good- Still not 100% but is getting close.
Jeromy Rodriguez- Wouldn’t stop talking about how thrilled he was to have him back and said he gets aggravated about others not rebounding but then realizes it’s because Jeromy is grabbing them all.
Damari Monsanto- Has unreal shooting abilities but is still learning defense and the mental aspect of the college game.
Octavion Corley- Said he’s the most improved player he’s had since he’s been here. Has really challenged Lucas this fall and has been altering lots of shots and playing at a high level. Also said that some opponents will kind of hinder Corley’s ability (sort of like Jurkin is the way I understood it).
Isaiah Tisdale- Complimentary of his leadership and ability to take care of the ball. Called him one of the nicest and best people he’s coached. Compared him to Chris Lofton in that regard.
Joe Hugley- He said the fans will love him because of how hard he plays. Said he was going to finish his masters in one year and was extremely intelligent. Called him a stretch 4 like he hasn’t had since undersized Lester Wilson.
Vonnie Patterson- Didn’t say a lot other than him being from the same juco as Devontavious Payne.
Lucas N’Guessan- Is really hard on himself. Has had a good fall and lead the team in scoring at Va Tech. Has to limit fouls and rebound his position better.
Charlie Weber- Said the kid was good and is going to be really good by the time he leaves. Has the ability to knock down outside shots. Comes from a strong basketball pedigree and his dad used to coach at Old Dominion.
Ledarrius Brewer- Probably the best all around player on the team. Obviously has to sit out this season though.

Some additional musings:

* He doesn’t anticipate playing Tennessee as long as Rick Barnes is there. He said he’s friends with Rick but it’s a no win situation for Tennessee. I find that odd considering they’ll play Chattanooga.
* He joked that LSU will still be in football mode so hopefully their fans stay home and maybe we can sneak out a win.
* Desonta Bradford and TJ Cromer are making $15k a month in Europe.
