The 2019-2020 Marshall Men's Basketball Team begins its defense of last season's CIT National Tournament Championship in about 10 minutes! The Herd's first official exhibition tonight is against in-state school Glenville State, a D-II school in the Mountain East Conference. Word is that anticipated PG Taylor has not been cleared to play, so we are expecting West to handle the point tonight and likely until Taylor is cleared.
Link to watch on Facebook... we are a bit sloppy in the first 2 minutes.

Glenville State 66
Marshall 100
FINAL

Team Scoring
Cam Brooks-Harris 19
Taevion Kinsey 14
Jerad West 12
Mikel Beyers 8
Iran Bennett 8
Goran Miladinovic 7
Ante Sustic 6
Darius George 5
Jannson Williams 5
Dajour Rucker 4
Robby Williams 3
Marko Sarenac 2
Ty Strum 2
Devin Collins 2
Jeremy Dillon 1

Last years game with G'Ville State was a track meet, a 113-108 win.

PG Andrew Taylor didn't dress or play, the NCAA is still to rule on him being eligible or not.

Dajour Rucker will be a redshirt this year along with most likely Devin Collins. Collins is a walk on but can shoot lights out. He could in a few years be the next Adam Loop at Marshall.

No way in Blue Blazes does this team finish 11 in CUSA. We lost the #1 and #5 scorer in program history and those players don't come a long but ever so often. But if they play on offence through out the year like they did tonight, then this season will be fun. Very few times did the ball come up the court with only one or two players touching the ball. On almost every possession all 5 players at sometime or another had a touch.

I agree, but I hope he is better than whoever Adam Loop was, hopefully he can be like Austin Loop.

I don't know why I said Adam. Maybe he was Austin's twin.

There was no isolation plays in the game vs G'Ville State and that's what I look to see for most if not all year. Extreme ball movement to find the open man and even an extra pass to find the better shot.

Hopefully the redshirts of Cam Brooks-Harris and Jeremy Dillon pay off. CBH scored 19 tonight and Dillon looked like a clone of West on defense when he was in. He fought and clawed for every loose ball that was around him.

Gotta love statements like this after an exhibition game against a D2 opponent. FWIW, I predicted you guys to finish lower than usual, but I also think 11 is too low. I think you guys will be a Pod 2 team, but who knows. I think a lot of teams improved this offseason.
11 might be too low but I see some where around 8-11 I mean you were only 5th with the best two players in marshalls recent memory team playing together.

And still split with you guys ?
Here is the preseason Marshall bravado we have come to know and love...Crown them champions after beating a Div. II team and losing the 2 best players they have ever had haha...

Yes, how dare someone from Marshall think we will finish better than 11th in Conference USA. Such smug arrogance from Herd fans.

North Texas football knows this all too well.

Everyone and their mother picked us low for one reason, we lost Elmore and Burks and that's it. Last year Elmore, Burks and Watson was 47% of the offense. Because they were both so good at what they done it worked for the most part.

But in 2014 everyone and their mother was sooooo giddy that Marshall hired Dan D'Antoni. And all the CUSA schools were sooooooo pleased. Well guess what, only 1 of those coaches are left (Jeff Jones) and only 2 of those were actually hired away. The rest were FIRED. That means 78% of those coaches failed before "The worst thing in a long time" (D'Antoni hiring) according to Gary Parrish.

At least Marshall basketball will never be ODU Football, a garbage dump.

Pretty sure Marshall basketball only recently climbed out of the garbage dump.

Point is its way too early to tell, but sure you should think you will finish better than 11th....Right now everyone thinks they will finish top 5.....

I find it mildly amusing you took my statement as an insult and decided to insult ODU football? Good one? And one could argue that one bid to the NCAAT in 30 years is equivalent to a dump of a program. It also appears your team only won 4 conference games in 2013, and finished last place in 2012, that's kind of dumpy. I'm not sure you got very far with your insult, so good luck with the next one. I recommend going after the baseball team next.
With your best player ever and a top ten player ever playing on the same team you managed to win one tournament cause the favorite got knocked out early. Besides that year whatdiddantoni do with the best player Marshall has ever seen play.
USM was a mixed bag. Tight game early on, we leave a lot of new guys in late to see how they handle pressure and what was a 19 point lead with 12 minutes to play was a 4 point lead with less than 2 minutes when a couple of the starters went back in to close it out. USM won 73-68.

some positives were: 21-25 from the FT line, only allowed 2 offensive rebounds and we shot 48% FG in the first half

some negatives were: 16 turnovers, 4-12 on 3s, and let a 19 point lead get down to 4 in the final 12 minutes of the game

Those who picked us last did pretty good based solely off last night's performance

Umm yea unless MC goes on to win the D2 national championship by 50 points this is not a good performance even as an exhibition. Good for MC though I am an alum.
I don't know why some do that. I'd much rather let the guys playing for us dictate where we finish. Never was much into talking smack about things I have zero control of. I will say that we have some good talent and some long players. They could make some waves in this conference. Or they could be complete duds and never gel. Sometimes having a couple of really good players on your team leads to primadonna syndrome. But I really think losing Penava and not having an answer to replace him hurt more than people thought it would. That was the big difference last year. We have 3-4 guys with the "potential" to do what he did this year. Hope it works out. Until it does #11 is the same as any other finish but first in CUSA at this point. Doesn't matter. I expect we'll be ready to go come tournament time. That's all that matters in this league.

We already beat Middle home and away that year. C'mon that's weak. And Elmore was great but we've had many better players than that over the years. Last most notably was a little feller by the name of Hassan Whiteside. I think he makes a few bucks in the NBA right now.

Prior to that year we went to the finals and the semi finals and had 2 other top 4 finishes. It's not like we sucked, just Middle was on a tear those few years in a row. In CUSA 3.0, since we hired D'antoni, we've been a top five conference team every year but one, his first.
