The NCAA Board of Governors has taken the first step toward allowing athletes to cash in on their fame. The board voted unanimously on Tuesday to clear the way for the amateur athletes to “benefit from the use of their name, image and likeness.”

I do kind of miss the threads of online leagues on this board. The smack was not half bad.

Plus with technology now the championship could be streamed on Twitch lol

But clt understands watching teenagers run around on a court/field?

It's all competition, just different forms.
clt says nerd alert!
To be clear they aren't saying they are opening the door wide open...just saying they will open the door...and how much is really still up for question. I think there should be some guidelines for this, but overall I have always been in favor of the concept.

I like the idea of setting up trusts where the money goes until a player actually gradates college. But that is probably unrealistic, it'd more likely end up being until they graduate OR get drafted. In this case, I think it'd also be fair to allow the players to draw some percentage of this per year.

Depends if they have to negotiate with 10,000 athletes for the rights. Is a UMass athlete worth the same as Hurts or Tua?

They already sent out EA settlement checks to players from 2003 to 2013.

They would do the same again.

Everyone gets a check in the mail.

I bet EA will give them a free game, it will be much cheaper for them.
