Matt Viator (ULM) - $390,000
Jamey Chadwell (Coastal Carolina) - $360,000
SBC's highest paid coach makes less than half of CUSA's highest paid.
SBC avergage is just under $650k
CUSA average is just under $970k
No wonder several of their schools have been screaming about the realignment shuffle.

Those coaches have also been either a.) at those schools for a while and receiving raises, or b.) were splashy name hires that required high dollars.
A lot of our SBC schools have made new hires and thus we aren't paying as much.
Neal Brown was making $810K before he left. Chip Lindsey is getting $600K.
Mark Hudspeth was making $1.15-million. Napier is getting $875K.
Joe Moglia was getting $400K. Chadwell is getting $360K.
As some of these new coaches start to become successful, we'll start to see the salaries go up. There's a lot of young, unproven head coaches in the Sun Belt.

I predict that we'll soon see a big reduction in G5 coach salaries across the board. Attendance is tanking at G5 games all across the nation, and with TV money for us basically non-existent anymore, G5 programs will struggle to continue to fund the arms race that's been going on in college sports.
Paying a G5 coach a $1M salary is getting harder and harder to justify for most G5 programs.
800-850k + good bonuses is about the right spot for a G5 coach.
If your school can't attract a winner with that, 1.8 million won't do it either.

...the 1.8 mil gives you staying power. Sure you start them around 800k, but if you have the assets to pay them 1.8M and they are good, that will keep them at your school significantly longer. Also, with various raises and contract renegotiations, that coach will find a way to get that money.

That tells me there are a lot of overpaid coaches in CUSA.
'Cuz none of them are earning that kind of money.
