Tonight Dave Doeren NC State is playing on National TV.
Glad it is the ACC and not a MAC week game.

NC State is leading Syracuse 6-0.
Anyone else pulling for NC State.

I am not infront of a TV so maybe some others can pick up the discussion.
Maybe we need a less controversial topic?
Hopefully we are not strongly divided between NC State and Syracuse!
End of 1st Q. NC State leading in practically all categories except penalties.
Points scored, total yards, first downs....
Syracuse are 3-20, while NC state are yet to be penalized so far.
So far the second Q, has not been as good for NC State as the first.
While they are still in command of this game, a holding penalty helped kill their last drive and Syracuse got 2 first downs before NC sacks forced another 3 and out.
NC state are back in the ,'drivers seat', with a fresh set of downs.
NC state Scores a TD!
13-0. 76 seconds left in the half.
Interesting fact NC State is rolling with a large number of freshman on their roster!
A good QB and several RB's are freshman only.
Interesting that Doeren has already used 3 QB's.
Rotating to the freshman QB resulted in the TD.
Syracuse finally opens up with a credible drive.
They are in field goal range for the first time with 11 seconds remaining in the half.
Syracuse miss 44yard field goal.
ND state 13-0. End of half!
Interesting fact: NC State beat Ball State 34-23 before Ball State played us.
Ball State were losing 7-20 at the half, but made a 2half comeback . A third quarter punt return which NC State took it back to the house helped to win the game.
Ball state outgained NC State in total yards but had to settle for field goals too often.
That combined with a 76 yard punt return were the difference makers.
Hopefully NC State wins and our loss to Ball State does not look as bad.
Another interesting and possibly relevant fact.
Syracuse beat Western Michigan 52-33 after losing to Maryland 20-63!
Rod Carey's Temple beat Maryland, but lost to Buffalo.

Maybe we have a realistic shot at beating Western Michigan.
NC State 16-0.
16-3. 54seconds 3rd Q.

Syracuse is a top 60 team according to Massey's ranking.
If NC State can win by a larger margin than 11 against BSU, maybe that will help us.
Final score
NC State 16 - 10 (4-2)
While they beat the spread of -4, it is not the spread that I would have preferred.

Schedule
Temple (4-1) vs Memphis #23 (5-0) (Noon) +4.5
NIU (1-4) vs Ohio(2-3) 2:30pm +6.5
Gophers #26 (5-0) vs Nebraska (4-2) 6:30pm -7.5
The amount of successful coaches with connections to NIU should excite you. In addition to the guys you've named, there are others. If Hammock leaves for being successful or underperforming, we have guys waiting in the wings. Other assistants with success...

Kevin Kane - DC - SMU
Jeff Knowles - DC - Temple
Matt Simon - WR - Minnesota
Tom Matukewicz - HC - SEMO (not the greatest start, but gradually improving)
Damn you Hawaii, Huskiepower2003 had the record for longest thread without any outside interest, but you ruined it. He did beat cyberdog, maddawgs, etal but HP2003 could have set such a high bar that it would rank up there with DiMaggio.

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just kidding.

What in the heck has happened to Syracuse
So now this is a thread about Syracuse??!! I thought Huskiepower2003 just started it as a joke to see if anyone slapped a wtf on it. Anyway, I'll care about NC State, Temple or Syracuse if NIU is ever sked to play them in anything. Otherwise, those guys are gone.

I'd rather talk about Syracuse football, Illinois State football, toe fungus, and roadkill before devoting another whole thread on Rod Carey

Thanks for posting this great information!

WE should be very proud of the NIU family coaching tree.
It's a sign of a good program with longterm success.
NIU FB certainly fits that description.

Like everyone else on this board I hope that Hammock is succesful.

No-one denies that he is a good man and a loyal NIU person.

Like so many other's I am baffled by the current performance of the team and wondering if he is putting too much information on this team?

Am hoping that with 7 MAC games left, we can win atleast 4 of them.
Atleast we lost our last two games by a single score(granted to bottom 15 teams of the NCAA div 1a.
Our mistakes were the difference between losing a close game and winning close games.

Talking about close games , the Gophers have had plenty!
While it's not winning pretty a win is a win and good teams find a way to win close games.

I would guess that NIU will be involved in many more close games this season, and I look forward to us winning many of them.

Beat Ohio tomorrow!

Well there are allot of good coaches out there with NIU ties.

It was good to see Dave Doeren with his freshman team finally getting a great win.
There first half performance was excellent!
Hopefully we will follow suit.
We are due for a conference win!
