Up 3-2 in the top 8th, VMI had men on 1st and 2nd with no outs. We got a K and then a sweep 6-4-3 to end the inning.

Heading to the btm of the 8th. Some insurance would be welcome.
Dukes win 4-2. 5 straight. 5-3 on the season. Rider comes in for a weekend series. Rider is 4-2 on the season, #37 currently in the RPI. They opened the season sweeping Charleston Southern (in Charleston) and then taking 1 of 3 at ETSU.
Dukes pick up an insurance run in the bottom of the 8th and win 4-2!!

Brian
Rider up 6-3 in bottom of the 6th.

Got a man on, hopefully we can come back.
According to a google search, via twitter Dukes win 8-7.
Nice comeback from the Diamond Dukes. Good win against a decent Rider team. Good win streak right now.

Did not watch the game and not posting this to go against what you wrote, but it appears they are not a well-regarded MAAC team.

Always like to see where the Dukes OOC opponents stack up in their pre-season conference rankings
Our out of conference schedule includes three series with MAAC schools two of which are bottom half MAAC schools. Don’t see where the coach really challenged his team. Looks like a schedule that should produce a lot of wins pre-conference. Still, JMU has won six in a row with two coming in walk off style.

Dukes predicted to finish in third in the CAA. The bats are looking good so far. Pitching is down from last year due to guys leaving early for the MLB. Sure would be nice to have baseball and softball do well in the same season. Need something to get the bad taste of basketball out of my mouth.
Compared to others, I agree that the schedule is sort of mediocre, but I believe this is the right thing to do. While baseball isn't the dumpster fire MBB is, it's close and we need wins right now. Get people inside as well as outside the program excited about JMU baseball, then be critical of the competition, but you've got to be winners first and foremost.

Fair comment and post. I didn’t refer to them as great just decent. Friday you see the “best” starter and our “best” looked bad. We rallied and won. Coming from a team in the past that has struggled against decent teams and would have lost that game. Your post is true in terms of how baseball America feels. I was posting in terms of past performance on our teams handling of this type of team, the talent I saw on the field and how the team needs to win going forward. With Dabney coming back later there is reason to be optimistic, still early however.

Good post in response. Thanks for sharing.
Odd first inning in game 1 of the DH with Rider scoring without a hit and the Dukes loading the bases with no out and only getting one across.
Dukes lose the first game of the double header today 3-2, currently leading in game 2, 3-0 in 4th
Great series win. Should be 8-3 to start the season but lots to be optimistic about. Good weekend for sure.
Maybe 9-2? Had a 6-4 lead on NC State until the bottom of the 8th in game two of that series.

The Dukes scored 16 runs in game two. Would have been nice if they could have spread those runs around between the two games.
I see where Showalter threw another beauty in the DD's win yesterday at HPU. 7 innings, 4 hits, 1 run (earned), 1 BB, and 3 K's. That's damn good at any level, but especially at the collegiate level.

His season stats so far are jaw dropping...

4-0 record
0.67 ERA
26.2 innings pitched (almost 7 per start)
13 hits allowed
4 walks to 21 strikeouts
only 2 earned runs allowed in those 26.2 innings pitched

Ike may keep him in the #2 starter (Saturday) role just out of the old "if it ain't broke" mentality and perhaps some superstition. Then again, when facing the opposition's best on Fridays, it would make some sense to move him to the #1/Friday role. Getting a weekend series off to a good start - while hopefully saving your pen - can do wonders for a team's confidence the remainder of the weekend.

(btw, DD's are currently down 2-1 in the 5th at HPU this afternoon...game is being streamed via ESPN+)
JMU drops the rubber match 4-2. They'll play tomorrow at 3 pm at VMI.

Thanks for responding and recognizing what I was attempting to point out without coming across as a jerk.04-cheers
It's early in the season, but I'm starting to think showalter might actually be the best starter on this team. I doubt they would do a mid-season switch and give Showalter the ball on Friday nights but at the end of the season, he might be the one they go to when it counts.

Agreed at this point. Lots to go but they may need to find some different starters outside of him.
