CC is the perfect coach for EMU FB and Heather deserves all the credit for discovering this 'hidden gem.'

The other thing for both he and EMU as they are a good fit. Some coaches want to be in a big city, maybe a media capital, P5 conference, the only game in town, Think of Alabama and Clemson. There is no bigger program or sport than their FB program. No NFL. CC has the Lions to the east, UofM to the west and MSU to the north, etc. CC has to share the county with the guys from Ann Arbor.

CC impresses me as the type of coach who neither wants to be top dog at a huge football factory like UofM, OSU, PSU, etc. Not an Urban Meyers.

I doubt he wants a multi-million dollar salary.

He is the antithesis of a P.J., Dino Babers, Ron Cooper (from the 90s), Urban Meyers, etc. All seem very ambitious.

I hope we can give him REAL incentives and that we will stay. I mean REAL. Say $25K for earning a bowl game. 15K for winning it. $25K for winning the MAC West. $25K for a MACC win.

I agree with everything you said, he doesn't want the big contract? Before EMU at Drake with all of his incentives he was making probably 200K a year, so yes being at EMU with all his incentives are triple that(which is a ton of money), but say if USF, or Illinois, or Pittsburgh offers a 5 year deal for 15 million, Creighton would leave, and so would everyone on this board!!!!!! That allows you to leave your children a huge trust!!!!!!!

Bingo James! Western had far deeper pockets than we do and it still did not work out. Unless Creighton has the same motivations as Solich in Ohio, at 50 years old, he probably follows the money and I am with Glory Days here, good luck to him.

Jerry, remember Solich got paid 3 million per season for 4 years at Nebraska, and then millions when his contract was bought out! So, Solich went to Ohio U around 60 years of age, and money, or pressure wasn't important! Creighton has resurrected A program in E Michigan that literally most people thought was not possible, and everyone on this board is so thankful for it! But, realistically he'll leave for P5 money, maybe just 5 miles up road! :)

Would he leave? Hard to say. I would totally understand if he did with the money that would come his way.

On the other hand, is he happy with what this job offers? I believe his salary is near 500k annually, he is building a program that can contend to win the MAC (I think they have a chance this year and next year would return a LOT of guys) and to be honest the expectations are not what a power 5 would be. If he wins 7 games and gets to a bowl game and contends for the West, its a great year.

Also, might be important to take note of a good MAC coach leaving (cough.....Fleck) and heading to a power 5. Outside of the money and resources, is Fleck really making the headway he thought he would like he did at Western? Look at Solich at Ohio as well.

I think most importantly CC thrives on the underdog approach and rightfully so. He stated earlier this year when asked about other offers, "Nobody wants me..." I think Eastern as long as the other local schools still draw massive crowds, relishes in this role. I sure hope he stays as I am a huge fan of his and how he coaches. He is doing it the right way. I just hope EMU ponies up a few more bucks and gives him a long term extension.

One more win and CC passes Genyk on the all-time conference wins list.

According to a Detroit News article I just read, CC is making $470K this season and increase $10K annually.

He'll 100% be gone when 4-8x the $$$ is laid on the table.......just like 100% of us on this board would be. All head coaches at this level have a bit of an ego and are obviously driven and hard working people. If and when his opportunity comes he will jump at it and we should all give him a big Thank You for taking a chance on EMU football and making it relevant again. (Along with all the players & assistant coaches that played a huge part as well.)

.................All moot if he and the program are maxed out at 6 or 7 wins and never really get over the hump. If this team doesn't get it done this year with Glass at QB, and Neathery at DC, that 6/7 win hump might start looking more like a mountain.

I don’t know, Steve. If Creighton came in and got results like Babers did, I’d be shocked if he stayed. Competitors love the challenge.

Bullseye tough! This year is his launch pad, lousy Big Ten opponent, miracle win against CCSU, two weak MAC East opponents and a decent cadence against the West unlike prior years when the schedule was front loaded with all of the contenders early.

Creighton, like EMU has a truly legitimate chance of making a true statement this year, such as winning the MAC West. Of course if he does so, he will be hired by a school paying him much more money like Ben Braun, Ed Chlebek and Ron Cooper understandably did before. I will salute him and the players who participated in this HUGE turnaround. 7 wins, however, this year will be below my expectation and I assume other schools as well.

Eagle Tough & Jerry, I couldn't agree more! If Creighton wins a MAC title at E Mich, simply he's gone!!!!! E Mich went 21 years without a winning record until Creighton has done almost the impossible, and that alone will get you noticed! You can't blame anyone for increasing their income 4 times as well! And Jerry, this is the schedule to win 8 or 9 games!!!!! Glass has basically done it all through the air, and running, and this is his senior season! At Toledo and at N Illinois, and W Mich at home are the only 3 games we should be an underdog, so the other 5 we should win on paper...….That's 8-4 without any upsets, and I think Toledo is the only game that will be really tough to pull an upset!

I still think this team is staring 10-2 and a MAC west title in the eye. I won't begrudge him if he chooses to take a bigger and better job - 12-15 million dollars is "kids can go to whatever grad school they want" money. i just hope the culture he is instilling in the program outlasts him and whoever his successor is (looking forward to the thread arguing about THAT) is as successful or more successful than he is.

I really agree with your last sentence.

CC has ALWAYS been in non-scholarship, lower division or G5 (EMU) coaching. For him to move up to a struggling P5 program would be a big mistake.

Anyone who has read his bio (e.g., Wikipedia) would realize a few things:

1). His life has been lived in the Midwest, e.g., Ohio, Kansas, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, etc.

2). All of the schools have been in small cities and towns.

3). All of his experience before EMU has been non-scholarship (e.g., Drake) or say lower level programs, e.g. D-III, etc. programs.

My comment:

Most P5 head coaches have a variety of experience say FCS, FBS, G5, P5, maybe NFL, etc.

Think of who we've hired (e.g., Cooper, Notre Dame; Rasnick, Utah; Genyk, Northwestern; English, UofM). All assistants or coordinators at P5 schools (note: Utah wasn't a Pac school when Rasnick was there).

CC has moved up the coaching ladder slowly at his own pack, staying in the Midwest and slowly moving to bigger programs.

He is a builder who likes to stay and build what he took over. If he stays another say 7 years name the field after him.

Ash was making 2.2M at Rutgers and will paid through 2022. Must be nice to throw away that kind of money.

If Creighton stays at EMU through 2022, Ash will make more money in just this year.
