Next Sunday in Houston:
#18 @RiceVolleyball will play the first T25 match in program history.
#23 @WKUVolleyball will be playing the first T25 *conference* match in program history, and just the second T25 conf. opponent (2008 vs #23 MTSU while in Sun Belt)
Rice's RPI ranking drops this week from 14th to 17th. It should go back up next Monday if we can win both games next weekend.

Texas A&M 9th in RPI? They had a good week (and should move into the top 25 this week, which is good news for us and the ability for the state of Texas to host 3 regionals), but they're not deserving of the #9 RPI ranking. But as you said, this is a big week at home for the Owls.
We move up 1 more spot to 17 in the polls. Still too much of a gap between us and the two teams right above us (Purdue, Utah) to pass them, but I'd bet you that happens for sure if we go 2-0 this week. Western Kentucky moves up one spot to #22 (edited) and A&M enters the poll at #25. SFA is in a tie for 28th - they could enter the poll in a few weeks. Oklahoma receiving some votes - that's another potential #2 seed for a Rice regional. But first things first, two big games this week at home.

! After knocking off current No. 1 Texas back on September 18th, they have won 11 in a row dropping just one set along the way.
More national exposure-- we're listed as the #3 matchup of the weekend...

Quote:Western kentucky vs Rice, sunday, nov. 10 | 2 p.m. ET on CUSAtv
This will be Rice's first top-25 matchup in program history. They have now won 12 straight matches and are undefeated in C-USA. They notched their 16th sweep of the season over UAB. Rice was catapulted into the spotlight when they beat then No. 3 Texas (now No. 1) in a five-set stunner this season. Nicole Lennon was a huge part of that win, with 23 kills and 13 digs. She has also been a huge part of their great season, and is leading the Owl offense. They have only dropped one set since their win over Texas.

Western Kentucky is now No. 22 in the AVCA poll. They only have one loss and are 10-0 in their conference. Paige Briggs and Lauren Matthews notched double-digit kills in their latest win over UTEP.

Nice video with Nicole Lennon and the NCAA reporter talking about the season so far, and Sunday's big match against WKU.
Nice Rice article on VolleyballMag.

In that article, one sentence starts: "Adekunle, also a sophomore, touches 10-8 ..."

What does "touches 10-8" mean?

I believe they are referring to the height of her reach (10 ft, 8 in) at the apex of her jump.

According to an NCAA recruiting site for volleyball, here are the average and 80th percentiles of various volleyball reaches/jumps for an outside hitter. 10'8" would be well above the 80th percentile (which is 9'5"). To show you how good 10'8" is, Skylar Fields (#1 high school recruit this past year - she's a freshman at UT) was tops among all high schoolers last year with a 10'8" reach. And she's 6-2.

Standing reach 7'9" 7'10.5"
Attack jump 9'1" 9'5"
Vertical jump 19.9" 22.6"
Block jump 9'1" 9'5"

Even more impressive, Adelunle is not an outside hitter; she's a middle blocker. What I've noticed is that unlike Nicole and most outside hitters, Anota prefers a relatively low set, but her arm speed is so quick, she hammers most of her kills straight down.
FAU up on Rice early in 1st set, 5-9.

Let’s go good Owls!
7-12. TO Rice.
Good Owls come back. Now tied 15 all.
20-22. TO Rice.
Playing badly and still won the first set. Good teams find ways to win.
