There's probably a few MAC level players in there that are unsigned. Heath should take the time to contact all of them. Maybe they'll consider EMU when they transfer from their first choice.
This fmr. Detroiter is in the transfer portal. He played at Siena last year.

For right now it appears the focus is on:

Michigan community school jucos
jucos in other states that are from the Detroit area
Michigan unsigned high school seniors
Florida high school or post graduate prep players
post graduate preps from the Detroit area

I assume Steve is also right they are looking at those players in the transfer portal with Michigan roots
Oh, nice find, Steve! I presume you are speculating that Golson may be following Bob Simon home from Siena? Or is this just a coincidence? In any case, he seemed to have decent numbers as far as freshman standards go (sans free throw shooting of 44%). So could be an immediate impact for the EMU roster if they do indeed snag him.

Yeah, any time a Detroit player goes what 500 miles from home, wants to transfer and BTW, was coached by someone on our staff... Got to reach out and see.

Certainly a PF is a position of very high need. I'll look to see if there are any vibes out there.

Yeah, one could reasonably guess it would make sense for Bob Simon, a Detroiter to recruit, Golson, a Detroiter, for Siena and once Golson was in the transfer portal that Simon would re-recruit him for EMU.

If there is a layup in recruiting this is it... 02-13-banana
I should quit while I'm ahead, but this Senegalese player from N.Y. has been on the UMass and Siena radar.

We could use a SF. I don't know if Siena is still recruiting him or if EMU would feel free to approach him.

He is from NYC and sounds like the type of prospect Wooten would have been recruiting two years ago.

Just tossing this out. Hartford (America East Conference) is downsizing from D-I to eventually D-III over the next few years.

This is very messy for the school and its program (staff, players, etc.). Nevertheless, some D-I and D-II coaches may keep an eye out for possible transfers.

Once again, Bob Simon has extensive recruiting experience against programs in the MAAC, America East, Patriot, etc.

Because of the 2020/1 'free year' there might be a few players who are interesting to other D-I programs. Looks like 2021/2 will be the last 'usual' year for the school.

This is due to financial reasons. No one but a few P5 schools athletic departments are making money. The current system cannot sustain itself. Look for more schools to do the same.

I'd go for this center from Hartford who is now transferring.

I like transfers. Coach can get the tape of Hartford v. Baylor and watch him against excellent competition.

Roger that — He’s a stud. Strong and relatively quick for his size. Had 3 blocks against Baylor!

I find it very hard to watch a high school game (hoops or FB) and try to 'evaluate' a prospect. Sure everyone can see that Bates has a ton of skill but few players are that easy to evaluate.

If I see a h.s. hoop player score 20 points does that prove anything, either way?

And remember when we are talking transfers we aren't trying to project to the next level (NBA or even G-League). We are asking: "How would he fit with our team?"

Yeah, the Hartford/Baylor NCAA highlights are out on YouTube (I watched some of the highlights). Coaches can sit back and watch players play against the best...

Got to remember, 68 teams went to the NCAAs, what 16 to the NITs, etc. that is a lot of tourney teams/games a coach can pour through while combing through the transfer portal.

If I were a coach, I'd be glad to take say a frosh or soph who wants to use his 'free transfer pass' and expect to have him for 2 or 3 years (with no sit out). Hell, I'd probably deemphasize high school recruiting. H.S. kids are harder to evaluate and have that free 'transfer pass.' That's two strikes in my book.

Coaches aren't dumb. I'm sure they'll see what I see and adapt accordingly.

If I see a frosh at a HM school who gets 10 - 12 minutes per game and averages say 4 or 5 ppg and wants to transfer, I look hard at him.

I'm looking at him being at my school for 3 years and maybe becoming a 10 - 15 PPG player for me. 03-idea 03-idea 03-idea
This is why I like college players. This WMU player finished 3rd in the Mr. Basketball polling in 2017. Shouldn't he be an all-MAC candidate with those accolades?

"with Jason Whitens, who finished third in the Mr. Michigan Basketball voting back in 2017, entering the transfer portal. Whitens, a 6-4, 185-pound guard who won three state championships at the Upper Peninsula's Powers North Central, averaged 5.4 points and 3.5 rebounds this season."

Looks like we offered this guy last week. 6’9 175 (bean pole) from Pennsylvania. Heath and co working hard on the east coast, like we expected.

EDIT: had its own thread. My bad!
Looks like a bunch of EMU recruits/targets playing in this all-star game.

March 22, 2021 article mentions one of our commits and one of our offers, also I believe our staff is warming up their interest in Omar Ziegler Jr. he would be a solid fit at wing.
