I saw that there's a bball thread about Troy already, but I didn't know if the Troy poster wanted the thread to be kept about Troy exclusively & I didn't want to be rude. Wanted to create a catch all thread for Bball around the league. The posters here do a wonderful job of keeping me updated on SBC teams. 04-cheers

Anyways, football is pretty sweet to keep me busy during Fall....but no other sports come close to pumping my blood again like basketball and it's almost back!

When football season is over, I will probably get interested in basketball. Of course that is me, but for those who love the hardwood sport, have at it.
I haven’t turned the page to basketball yet. See you in a few months.

I’m excited as well. ULM actually has some size this year.
Football JUST started...this is madness! Come on man!

Funny, the people complaining that it’s football are general noted fornthat in the article.

fun read. thanks for sharing the link.

2. Georgia State (77) – The Panthers have reached the NCAA Tournament five times, including three in the last five years under former coach Ron Hunter. The recruiting base is the best in the league, but the facilities rank towards the bottom of the conference. Georgia State can also sell one of the Sun Belt’s few first-round picks in recent years: R.J. Hunter.

Where they win: “Budget and players. They have so many players in their backyard, that’s what makes it such a good job. But you can also get anywhere quick in and out of Atlanta. There’s also the sell of the city of Atlanta.” – Sun Belt assistant

Where they lose: “Facilities. They are one of the worst in the league. They play on the fifth floor of a class building. It’s got the feel of a high school gym. ” – Sun Belt head coach

I don't see why SBC cant be serious about both major sports. My dream is to witness SBC > CUSA+MAC in overall perception. 04-cheers

Although...
Mid Major bids in March Madness > G5 Bowl Season

ULM squad with ridiculous 3 point shooters and good size for offensive rebounds....? That sounds almost unfair...04-jawdrop
I take it the Sun Belt assistant that spoke about Strahan hasn't been there since the upgrades?
As for Georgia State...the team feels completely different and unrecognizable from the Ron Hunter era.

1) We are going big, and I mean BIG. The new C and PF will be 6'10 235-245lbs ish. Our goal is to go from the worst to the best rebounding team in the league. I'm hearing very good things about our new post players' physical and mental developments. At the very least, the big guys look intimidating. To visualize a mental picture, in social media posts, the 6'4 guards look like regular students standing next to these guys.

2) No more Ron Hunter style zone defense, which should make some teams happy like the GS team that likes to penetrate with athletic guards. Rob Lanier is installing full court man-to-man all the way. Could be a higher ceiling overall if executed well, but I can easily see some mismatches at some positions against our SBC conference mates that basically use 5 shifty guards on the court.

3) As Rob Lanier describes his full court man defense, it sounds exhausting just listening to it. There's just no way our 5 starters can play 30+mins per game like the Ron Hunter days. Our bench guys better be ready to rotate in for at least 10-15mins.

4) The basketball conditioning is "hardest they ever experienced" as the players describe the off season. I see noticeable muscle gains on some guys, so there is a tangible reason for little optimism. Conditioning should be pretty great.

5) The offensive playbook sounds little more complex, but one thing is clear..no more jacking up 3s (which worked often enough & fun to watch, to be fair to Ron Hunter.) We are going to work the clock, work the paint, and try to score easy basket from the open man.

I'll continue with GSU updates as I hear more.

I was thinking that while reading about TXST

Anyone know what Coastal's "issues with admissions" are?
So we’re ranked dead last in recruiting base, but the positive comment says we’re “within driving distance of good areas to recruit”? Hmmm

We go 7’1 - 260, 6’10” - 220, 6’10” - 220, 6’8” - 195 (Tyree White), and 6’7” - 240. Big size difference from last year from what many are saying is Richard’s best ever recruiting year.

is that the biggest SBC player in history? 04-jawdrop

so what's the catch? ULM held his family hostage? Richard paid off his mom's debt?
I was wondering the same thing. That’s a big dude. Looks athletic too. Two 6’10 guys too.
Adding an inside game to our outside shooting game could make a scary team in the SBC.
Cajuns are still coached by Bob Marlin.Look for another 4th or 5th place finish with multiple excuses for underperforming. 04-chairshot
