Since Sutton and Corcoran are gone we’ve had an incredible drop off. I thought Lorbeck would at least create some pressure but he’s been non existent. Maybe it’s time to start rotating players at DE. Anyone know if Michael Kennedy has been out there at all? We need some sort of pressure because we can’t get off the field on 3rd down.

Come on, give them a little slack. Utah was 5 for 11, which isn’t good, but ISU was 1 for 14 on third downs. Utah is a legitimate team that can go a long, long way this season.
I think Sutton has skewed are expectations of pressure. He would often beat guys so bad he'd go untouched. Be on the QB in like 1.5 seconds. We aren't going to see that again. Maybe ever. I agree they have to get better, but Lorbeck is your best option going forward. Lets let the line develop and judge them in conference play.

Corcoran started out as a total stiff when he first played. Just locked up with the tackle and stood there. He developed. I believe Lorbeck will too.

I know we have been spoiled over the past 2 years. Our run defense is still great. Thought the penetration up the middle would help our DE’s get free.
What scares me the most about the lack of outside rush is the need to blitz. Every time we bring extra guys and don't get there I'm in full panic of a huge gain.
A bit of an overreaction here, I think. It's only the first game. This Defense will need more than just one game to properly gel. Expect to see an overall improvement week-to-week.

Also, Utah is pretty damn good. I suspect the Defense will start to look a whole lot better from the Vandy game on.

GO NIU!

Beat Nebraska (again).
I think we exercise some patience Definitely double edged sword ... if I recall from yesterday, two key plays.. one the successful 4th down conversion and one of the 3rd down conversions were on blitzes .. huge swings that could have had NIU leading at half
