The Kennesaw State Owls visit Dix Stadium this Saturday at 12 p.m. You can catch the game on ESPN3 if you can't make it to Kent.
Kennesaw State is ranked #7 in the current FCS poll. They are a run-first team that utilizes a triple-option attack. In week 1, a staggering 13 players had at least 1 carry in a 59-0 win over NAIA Point University, as the Owls accumulated 433 yards on the ground. Only 2 running backs had 7 or more carries, and their top RB graduated last year. Preparing for this game had to be very difficult.
Much like Arizona State, we have to contain the running game in order to win. Our defense played well enough to keep us in the game in spite of our offensive mishaps. If you recall, we had 5 fumbles in the 1st quarter, but still were only down 10-0 at the half, thanks almost entirely to our defense and punter Derek Adams. We also (when I say we, I mean Xavier Williams) dropped 2 wide open passes that would have resulted in touchdowns.
If we can stop shooting ourselves in the foot (feel like I've said that 100 times over the years), we should be able to move the ball much better this game. Kennesaw State is going to move the ball too. Like all of the top FCS programs, they are good enough to beat a lot of FBS teams. This could come down to who has the ball last. I'll take the flashes in a nail-biter:
