The soccer team had two exhibitions last week. They battled to a 1-1 tie with TCU, and then defeated Lamar 4-1 (the Cardinals were picked 3rd in the Southland Conference preseason poll). They open up their season for real this week, and I think new coach Brian Lee is going to do a solid job with that squad.

They've changed up their logo a bit - keeping the Old English R but putting it in the form a more traditional soccer crest. I think it works.

I like the new logo!
Also hired a volunteer assistant who plays for the Houston Dash and was a member of Canada's World Cup squad. I don't know how temporary the position is or how having a player of that caliber on the sidelines impacts recruiting (or if a bunch of other teams have similar arrangements), but still a pretty cool addition.

Sentiments such as this are not allowed. Surely the 3 stripes, the length of the stripes, the outline of the patch, or just that it is new, reflects the failure of the current athletic department.

Oops. Sorry! What was I thinking? 04-chairshot

Still like the logo for the soccer team.

Allysha Chapman is the new Volunteer Asst. Coach. Busy lady!

I’m told by someone who works for the Dynamo organization, to which the Dash belong, she is one of the better players on the Dash team.
Something is wrong here. We were given solid information from a highly credible and well-connected insider that the OER was all but gone because our AD hates Wayne Graham. This is unpossible.
Gotta say - really like that crest. The way they slightly modified the Adidas strips, so that each one is a different length to signify the Houston skyline is a great little touch.
That is a sharp looking crest that will look great on a cap, golf shirt or blown up and made the centerpiece on a t-shirt. Well done.

Aaand the line under the OER shows the downtown waterline when it rains.

Rice beat Oral Roberts 2-1 against a team who is picked 7th in their league. I thought they played somewhat tentative but only the first game.
New coach opens the season with a road win.

I'll take it!
Good job, Owls! 04-cheers
Women shutout Houston 3-0 in the home opener tonight. Erin Mikeska had two goals for the Owls.
Thought they looked pretty good. Really liked how they laid back without the ball and then attacked the ball. Is UH supposed to be any good?

Always good to get a win over Tillman's other pro team.

Houston was 7-10-2 last year, with an RPI of 186...
UH does not have much this year. Ranked in the 2nd half of the conference.

Second win in a row vs the AAC (along with last year’s home win against Tulsa).

We’ve also got USF and SMU coming up next month.
We have won the ones we suppose to win. Now we are getting in the challenging schedule. USF is ranked in the top 20.
