Men got the exhibition win on the road. 2 home exhibitions against power schools this week
In the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll from Aug 8, we received 9 votes for the Top 25. That puts us 36th in the voting.

Duke, who we face tomorrow night (Tuesday) at 6 PM in our 2nd exhibition, is ranked # 10 in that poll. Should be a solid test to see where we stand entering the season.

Duke finished the 2018 season 11-7-2 and ranked # 11.
Hawks 2, duke 1. Final

Thats a great win ! Huge momentum builder
Wild game last night. It was 0-0 until the 78th minute when we scored to take the 1-0 lead. Duke equalized at the 88th minute, but 10 seconds later we took the lead with 2:29 left. Both goals were scored by freshman Parker Norris. He's got a bright future ahead of him.

Coach Heaney has had Duke's number over the years, which explains why they rarely play us in the regular season anymore. Between 2012-15, we beat them 4 straight times, including a 3-0 win in Durham in November 2015.
Yeah normally dont we get at least 1 power conference school to do.a non exhibition game?
Did I read correctly that the men beat USC 2-0 today?

Why yes. Yes you did.
Yep, in an exhibition contest. South Carolina isn't very good, but its still nice to basically dominate an SEC team and it be a "ho, hum" kind of win for us.

Until midway thru the 2nd half, I saw on the scoreboard they only had 1 shot and had committed 10 fouls. On one of those fouls just outside of the box, Danny Reynolds put in a free kick to take the 1-0 lead. We're going to be deadly on set pieces.
Ga Southern is up next. They are Preseason #3 in the Sunbelt. They lost their 1st exhibition at High Point 2-0 and tied a non D1 school in their 2nd exhibition
Team looks strong again!
Hawks lose 4 to 2 to Georgia Southern.... not a great start to the season
Looking at the match summary, we let up a goal in the first 30 seconds. We tied it back up a few minutes later and went into the half tied. Then GA Southern scored two more after half, one of which was 23 seconds into the second half. Cut the deficit to 1 in the 75th minute, but then Nilsson got a red card in the 80th minute. GA Southern scored a 4th goal late to seal the deal.

I agree as its a rough way to start the season letting up 2 goals in the same game right after the halves began, plus getting a red card

YIKES!
UNCW falls to 0-2 with a 2 to 1 loss to Stetson. It would be my guess that we won’t receive any top 25 votes in the upcoming poll.
Dang, not the way they wanted opening weekend to go
Sadly, this story feels all too familiar year after year.

Hope they learn from these early setbacks and get it going.

Had such high hopes after strong preseason showing!
Plenty of time to turn the ship around, but it’ll take a while to gain back credibility in the polls. Sucks.
