Come to practice today and ask the coach.

I think it'll be Bowers. You have to feel bad for CHilders, as he seems to be a capable QB who just wasn't allowed to play to his potential. Regardless, he'll be a more than capable back-up.

Ill. State will have no film on the new NIU offense, which should be much more dynamic. NIU news to keep its foot on the gas for the whole game.
Bowers will be the starter. He’s Hammocks guy. Hammocks first big get. He will get every chance to show out. Also, one of the very first things Hammock said was - we need to get better at Qb. He’s already evaluated Childers. Doesn’t matter the crappy offense. A coach can still see accuracy, timing, poise in the pocket, decision making...etc.

Childers is an ideal back up qb. He’s good. Or maybe solid is a better description. If Bowers has to miss time you can be confident that Childers will keep a game close. Now he won’t go out and win the game, but he won’t lose it either.

Our offensive coordinator (Eric Eidsness) was at South Dakota State who played Illinois State last year so I would think they would have a fairly good idea on what to expect just as Eidsness should have a good idea on their defense. We’ll know in 3 weeks.
IMO, Eidsness knowing Illinois State is a bigger advantage than Illinois State having seen what Eidsness did at SDSU. Don't know how much Redbirds have "changed" from last year, but it can't be all that drastic. NIU has a different head coach, different personnel, etc, etc. Redbirds reviewing tape of SDSU won't do them too much good. Eidsness also has a rep as an offensive innovator, and THammock wants things adapted to the personnel.

Aug. 31 can't get here soon enough.

I would think Eidsness would bring a lot of his offense with him and Illinois State will have an idea on his offensive sets and tendencies. I hope it is a BIG advantage for NIU-Go Huskies!

Eidsness is working with much money talent than he had at SDSU
I have a feeling Childers will start the first game and play the first half unless he shows to be ineffective or we go down by 3 scores early, then he gets replaced with Bowers. Bowers gets to play the 2nd half, even if Childers does well.
My guess is we see both against ISU and then will be a permanent starter after that game.
There is no way it's anyone but Bowers or Childers. I don't know about Valenti, and Thompson is not starting material.
We're three weeks from the ISU game. Coach Hammock has mentioned that they'll start game prep about a week and a half out, which means there's only a week and a half of real competition left. Given the short amount of time left and the fact that Childers and Bowers seem to be performing roughly equally in camp, it seems likely that Childers will get the start vs ISU. Bowers would probably have to do something pretty spectacular in this small window to change that. Regardless of who takes the first snap vs ISI, I think both guys will play and they'll sort it out through the non-conference schedule. As we know, Childers' practice performances do not always translate to games. He'll have to prove it on game day.

Completely agree on all points!!
Why don't we just quit guessing and keep our uneducated opinions to ourselves. I am sorry but there is just too much stupidity on this forum and not enough info.

Yea I know it is an internet whatever but try to contribute information. And yes I know I will get hate for this but go into the bathroom and look in the mirror

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This thread is Chubby material, I love it. Either way, I think the QB spot is in good hands, which is a huge relief. NIU Utah can't happen fast enough, but beat ISU first. A dinner of fowl is on the way.

Can't figure out what you were expecting to see. It's a fan message board. Maybe visit CFN and get some "expert" opinions LOL

I went with Bowers....but wouldn't be surprised to see Childers trot out there.

I chose Bowers due to the comment from Coach E. He said Bowers has grasped the new offense faster.
So was Cal offense more similar to our new one than old offense? Maybe Bowers used to it.
