Will the mountain west contract by kicking out SJSU and/or Hawaii? Would this be an option if the AAC takes a school?
https://www.google.com/amp/s/mwwire.com/...vival/amp/
Even if contraction isn't an option, then who would the MWC backfill with? NM State? Idaho?
UTEP and NMSU

But I would not mind getting Montana and Montana St.
Ten would be better, SJSU leaving would be addition by subtraction.

What team could you see the AAC poaching?

Montana and Montana State are both solid programs, average 15,000 plus for their football games, and Montana was invited to the WAC before, but declined the invite.

But now that the MW has settled the issue of FBS football in the West, I think UM and MSU will want to join if asked.

Also maybe NDSU and SDSU.

Montana and MSU have expressed zero interest in moving up.

In a WAC that was in stable but if the MW approached the Montana’s I doubt they would turn it down. It would be a big upgrade for them and they are a perfect profile fit with the other flagship and land grant universities in the conference.

I think we’ll see them in mid future moving to FBS. They have certainly invested in their facilities at a FBS level. It’s too bad Idaho and Idaho St haven’t done the same. ISU really needs to get out of that crappy dome and build an outdoor stadium and basketball arena.

ISU has been in a tailspin since the late 80s. Last year they got a new President (from Boise who supports athletics), and a new Athletic Director. Since then, they have fired and hired a new hoops coach, softball coach and several academic department heads. The worst is over but it will take years to get to where they should be.

Idaho seems to be in a similar boat, not willing or able to spend enough money on athletics to get decent FBS calibre facilities.

Hopefully, you guys can get going on facilities. Idaho St does have a bit of potential and in a growth area for support especially since BYU-I dropped sports.
