Good article.

Quote:"We want to build off what we did last year," said senior All-MAC running back LeVante Bellamy. "Last year we started OK, got a little shaky in the middle, and we finished strong and we want to build off that."

Love Bellamy, but I had an entirely different impression of last year. Started out a little shaky (blowout Cuse and scUM losses), had a strong middle, collapsed at the finish.

Yeah, I thought the same thing when I saw that.
We beat NIU near the end, so I would not call it a collapse at the finish. The finish was sort of reflective of BYU game -- tale of two halves. Pick the WMU team to show up.

And I wouldn't call Cuse a blowout. We had more yards than them and lost by 13. Our D definitely got blown out (with their starting QB in; ie most of the game). So yeah, I can see how one can Feel like we got blown out.

Babers TOYED with our staff. Extremely frustrating way to start the season.
BYU proved that we couldn’t adapt to a change in offensive philosophy.

We were set to stop their run game and we executed. Then second half they out coached the crap out of our D. Big Lou had NO recourse. BYU went on to torch our secondary for an entire half with no adjustment whatsoever.

That’s my concern.
Keep in mind that BYU QB was playing out of his mind.
Sometimes it's "not the Xs and Os, but the Jimmies and the Joes."

i.e. you can have the best scheme, the best call, but the other guys are just better.

Happens every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

You think Saban-Alabama were clueless how to defend Clemson's offense, that the difference in that game (for example) was coaching?
I start every season with optimism, and I won't let this be the exception, however, last years defense was literally the worst WMU defense I have ever seen, and the year before it wasn't great either. Our D-coordinator was co-coordinator then, and since being promoted he has only that performance against BYU on his resume. It seems last year we either got humiliated, or narrowly won. Yes, I understand that there were exceptions. I like the players we have this year, but I liked the players we had the past few years even more, and yet we had very disappointing seasons under Lester. (I still think the players he inherited after the Cotton Bowl year were the most talented he will ever coach).

Nothing will surprise me. We could win 10, we could win 4. Everyone hopes and even expects the best before the games start, and nobody really knows anything until about the fifth game.

Become unpredictable on offense, and be aggressive with strategy on defense, and things could be exciting and fun. Short of those things and we will have another marginal season, fitting squarely into mediocrity, and confirming the skeptics concerns about Lester.
Yes, let's rely on trying to fool the other teams when we have the ball.

They are all probably poorly coached and will be unprepared.

And if that doesn't work...?
Speaking of predictable, some posters are so that.

When I see the handle, I already know what the post will say.

Saying the same stuff for 3 years now.

Come on guys. Try to come up with some fresh material.

You say silly things, which you know are ridiculous, just to be antagonistic. To advocate being predictable on offense (or defense) is silly, even for a HS coaching "legend".

Aren't play action fakes an attempt to "fool" the defense into thinking, for a moment, that it's a run, when in fact it is a pass? I bet you ran a few of those when you were coaching, huh? Or did you assume that your opponents were well coached, and would prepare their players for possible play action fakes?

This forum has become one where anyone who dares to say something that doesn't constitute cheerleading for the current staff gets ripped on. Yet the same "negativity police" had nothing good to say about the old staff, and was only stifled slightly by an undefeated season. You "football geniuses " need to read your posts over the years and check your record on who you think is doing good things, and who isn't.

I could make an argument that the 2013 Defense was worse, look at the performances against Nichols State and Iowa. but it doesn't matter. Excited for the 2019 season!!!

Funny thing when a janitor with substance issue accuses a guy who doesn't drink of being a drunk. Get a life Randy.

We all fall into ruts. Some of us are more adaptable than others. This was really noticeable when I was away from the forum for some time. With some posters it was like I had never left as they were beating the same drum. When (not if) I fall into the rut please call me out. I may or may not change but would like that opportunity.

You can tell it's the off season. Personal attacks have picked up and I have participated. We need a game to argue about
