Rockets get a late addition as Perrysburg native Josie Fowler is transferring from Marquette. Will be eligible this season.

2-0 exhibition loss at Michigan State
Well, the Rockets season is not off to a great start. After losing the opener 1-0 in extra time to IUPUI, they lost today to Purdue 4-0, with all goals scored in the 1st half.

The team is pretty young, starting several true freshmen, but I still expected a bit better showing against PU. Will see how the season progresses.
Rockets lose the home opener to UIC 1-0.

Gonna be a long season it would seem. Rockets beat UIC 6-1 last year, and although may be improved, looked like a team UT should beat. Lots of scoring chances but no one finishing. Rockets have not scored a goal in 3 games plus an exhibition.
Well the Rockets get their 1st win of the season, and 1st at Paul Hotmer Field, beating Oakland 4-3 in a crazy, crazy match where all 7 goals were scored in the 2nd half.

The refs took away a 1st half UT goal by Alex Troy on an extremely late and IMO very questionable offside call. The Rockets took a 2-0 lead mid-way through the 2nd on 2 goals off scrambles off corner kicks. After that, they seemed to decide to stop playing defense as Oakland all of a sudden looked like the USWNT getting open all over the field and seemingly scoring at will. After OU tied it up at 3-3, things settled down before a bad mistake by OU allowed freshman Stephanie "Stitch" Currie buried one in a wide open net with about a minute left in regulation.

Good to see them get a win, but to be honest I though OU looked like much the better team most of the match - they were faster and more skilled than UT IMO. Will have to see how this translates as the season moves forward. UT is still very young, and are still playing without probably their best defender in Notre Dame alum Lexa Bauer.

Answer to the trivia question of the 1st Rocket to score a goal at Hotmer Field: Anita Mancini.

Is anyone going?
I left at halftime. Oops. The Braves and football were calling my name.

Having them on campus is great, but parking is an issue, students are busy with start of classes to attend mid week games, interest in college soccer trails BB and FB so I don't think we should be surprised that crowds are not larger, perhaps over time a winning culture may pull in more fans.

Plenty of open spots in lot 10 yesterday
And the crowd yesterday was just as big as any I've ever seen. And the amount of students were probably 10 fold over what I have ever seen before. Maybe an exaggeration about the students, but Id say about 100 students between the two end sections

Not bad . Be nice to triple that.

Plenty of open spots in lot 10 yesterday

and parking is not free, enforcement is all day and into evening M-F, plus perception of lack of parking can also be an issue, but great to hear of better crowds and more students

Did they announce it at the game...ballparking it I figured it was probably closer to 250-300, but when it gets to numbers like that it's hard to estimate.

I am not aware of free parking (ticketing not enforced) during soccer games. Unlike BB and FB where selected lots are closed on gameday to allow visitors from campus to park there. Aggressive parking enforcement, and lack of a dedicated visitors parking lot on main campus (visitors can use app or UT website to register and pay for day parking pass) are issues

From the UT Athletics web site. Any thoughts on the new scoreboard? Also, I was wondering if the field was going to be wide enough. The NCAA says 65-70 yards, but it didn't seem to me that there was that much room inside the track.

The website indicates that parking for soccer is free in lots 5 & 6

It would be nice if they put the attendance in with the box score. They don't seem to have reported attendance to the NCAA either, as the NCAA statistics list UT as 0 so far this year.

It is a skinny field. Have to be between 70 - 75 yards, with 75 being the preferred width. The announcers indicated before the game that it is a 70 yard field if I heard them right. That probably helps the team this season at least, because they don't appear to have a lot of team speed.

It may be a little short too, not sure. Preferred length is 120 yards but has to be at least 115.

It is tight, but it looks to about the same width as the field I played on at Cincinnati, so probably closer to the short side of that range of 65-70 yards if I had to guess. Many teams with smaller fields use that to an advantage honestly...just a tough thing to do with no time to prep in the preseason.
