Believe it or not, compared to the men's team they are actually overpaid. Comparing pay from the last time both teams made the world cup. The FIFA paid the women 13% of revenues generated while the men only got 7% of revenues generated.

The issue is that the women do not generate the same revenue as the men do. The most recent cycle saw the World Cup in Russia produce $6 BILLION of which the teams participating shared $400 million or less than 7%. While the women's World Cup is expected to produce $131 million in which the teams participating share $30 million or over 22%.

Since 2008 US Soccer has paid only 12 players 1 million or more. Six men and six women. The highest paid man was $1.4 million and the highest woman was $1.2 million.

In the US the MLS averages a little over 20,000 per match while the top tier women's league averages around 7,000.

compared to the men's team yes they are overpaid, but, why would they not get 50% like the NBA players do?

I read somewhere (and it could be wrong) after expenses womens soccer loses money.

And the payout has been doubled to 60mil.
The gender gap story is really a story about specifically the USWNT getting underpaid compared to the US Men's team and their lawsuit against US Soccer.

No one, including members of the USWNT, have stated that they expect to be paid the same as the men's world cup champions.(Notice the author didnt use any of Rapinoe's actual quotes on this*) However, they do expect to be paid the same as the US Men's team who brought in exactly zero dollars of that Men's World Cup money the author talks about because they didnt qualify. Overall, the US Women's team has brought more money in this last WC cycle than the men even when you consider that the men hosted 2 Gold Cups and the Copa America Centenario.

Bottom line is that US Soccer should pay the 20 full time members of the USWNT the same pay scale as the 23 callups for the USMNT. Tournament prize money is tournament prize money and US Soccer doesnt have control over that. But they do have control what they pay USWNT players for friendlies that draw twice what the men draw and the She Believes Cup whose average attendance is 3 times higher than the Gold Cup when you take out the El Tri games.

*The Rapinoe quotes he didnt use but linked and still took out of context were concerning Infantino's announcement that the Men's and women's prize money would go up and Rapinoe took exception that under the new plan the pay gap actually increased. And really her main point was that money needed to be thrown in infrastructure and not scheduling two Confederation Finals on the same day as the Women's World Cup Final.. I mean its right their in the link that I am sure the author didnt even read.
Maybe the WNBA should demand equal pay with the NBA

They got next...
You never give me your money
You only give me your funny paper
And in the middle of negotiations
You break down
How do they think US Soccer is paid?!! By our government... no, it's by FIFA and that is based on how much many FIFA makes.

Can you imagine how successful the men's team would be if it didn't have to compete with the NFL, NBA, MLB for top athletes. Would we actually lose a World Cup if the US had soccer as its primary sport?

This lawsuit and more specifically the players complete lack of understand and failure to show true patriotism are sickening.
The rules of soccer might have to be changed. There would need to be ample tee vee timeout spaces.

Drop the goalie. Only change that would make it watchable.

this is the truth. why cant the US be innovators in this regard? Tell FIFA to stuff it and have American networks stop paying for the World Cup if they try to muscle US soccer on this matter.

Have a TV timeout of 30 seconds on each Goal Kick, a 1 minute TV timeout on each substitution and a 1 minute on each yellow/red card. Have "injuries" trigger a 30 second timeout.

Here is the thing the soccer "purist" dont understand. Commercials HELP a game, and in game commercials are very likely to feature American Soccer Stars which helps with the development of the game

All FIFA has to do is declare the US an outlaw federation and ban international players from competing. MLS cannot survive with only US players. The talent level isn't that great.

The US needs FIFA far more than FIFA needs the US. The US is a minor soccer market internationally and FIFA is as powerful of an organization as there is. They control international player movement. They are like the FIA in motorsports. You either play by their rules or you do not play.

As far as commercials they can follow the leadership of motorsports and go side by side. Indy Car started doing it over a decade ago and now most motorsports split the scene and go to commercial while still keeping the action playing in a side screen.

more like 22% and yes they would at the drop of the hat if it mean having to give up any power.

Besides FIFA turned a profit of well over $2 billion from the World Cup in Russia without the US involved.

This lawsuit and more specifically the players complete lack of understand and failure to show true patriotism are sickening.

the only money the players get from FIFA is World Cup prize money every 4 years. The players pay the rest of the time comes directly from US Soccer. US Soccer gets its revenue as follows:

In 2018, Sponsorships were 52 million, National team game revenues were 25 million, International game revenues were 5 million and then roughly another 10 million in assorted areas(US Open Cup, Coaching Courses, Olympic committee, etc).

In 2017, US Soccer made a ton more money (290 million) because of the Copa America Centenario(basically from South American teams playing competitive games in the US)

None of that comes from FIFA at all.

Currently, US Soccer pays the men's and women's teams in the following way:

US Men
Currently get paid $13,166 per US game when they are called up to the team whether they win, lose or draw.

US Women
Currently get paid around $5k per game but only if they play and only if they win the game. On top of that, select players(around 20) get paid extra yearly salary that tops out at $99k a year.

So compare Rose Lavelle and Gyazi Zardes so far in 2019.

Rose Lavelle was the Bronze Ball winner and one of the USWNT most important players.

Gyasi Zardez is an awful soccer player with a worse haircut that is consistently played by an awful manager at both club and country

Lavelle is not currently making the maximum $100k salary from US Soccer(newer to the program). She has played 16 games this year but they only won 13 games. So she earned $65k for these games.(Not including tournament Prize money).

So from US Soccer she averages $6500 a game this year.

Gyasi Zardes has played 11 games for the US this year and made 144k this year before prize money.

He averages $13k a game for decidedly worse and less popular product.

Outside of WC years, the USWNT draws about 30% of the USMNT in attendance.

In the US the MLS averages right at 20,000 per game. NWSL draws around 6,000.

NWSL record attendance for match 23,403. MLS record attendance 73,109.
