Quote:DENVER – At its annual June meeting, the Western Athletic Conference Board of Directors elected its 2019-20 Executive Committee and approved several items for the upcoming academic year and beyond.

Seattle University President Stephen Sundborg was elected Chair, while New Mexico State University President John Floros was elected as Vice Chair. The third member of the Executive Committee is Grand Canyon University President Brian Mueller, who served as the Chair for the past year. In addition, Seattle U Athletic Director Shaney Fink will serve as Chair of the WAC Council for the 2019-20 school year.

The Board heard from NCAA President Mark Emmert on a variety of topics including sports wagering, academic misconduct, current NCAA legal issues, and mental health and safety.

The Board approved several items that were recommended by the Council, including the revenue sharing formula for the distribution of the NCAA Academic Performance Fund. The Board also approved the return to the Orleans Arena for the WAC Basketball Tournament through 2021.

In addition, the Board:

Extended the contract of Commissioner Jeff Hurd through 2020-21
Approved the conference's 2019-20 fiscal year budget and year-end distribution
Approved the extension of the conference office lease for seven years

So glad NMSU brass is finally on WAC leadership. It will be for the better to actually have university presidents and not ceos as leadership of a college athletics conference
