I haven't heard any reports they were even considered which suggests to me expansion wasn't just about FB and a championship game. it was also an attempt to weaken the competition on the east coast

Yes. Vanderbilt wasn't going to move for less, or change their brand. And yes, ESPN took the programs they didn't want becoming an option for Big 10 expansion eastward. And the ACC was their cheapest product to own so paying for those brands in the ACC made a lot more sense (and cents) than potentially having to bid for them at Big 10 prices and back then the BTN was solely the possession of the Big 10 so they wouldn't even have T3 access to them.

Vandy only moves if they drop football. And I'd say the odds are much higher of that than them moving to the Big 10 or ACC.
It wouldn't surprise me if one day they became the SEC's first partial member. I consider that to be the likeliest option if Vandy de-emphasizes or abandons football.

So they can get a 70% pay cut? Freakin joke. Vandy is just fine.

Why would Vandy become a partial member of the SEC and receive partial money?
The most likely thing for Vanderbilt, if they left the SEC, would be to join the ACC where they are a much better "fit".

Don't congratulate yourself X. It is only a hypothesis on a very long shot set of circumstances which probably will never come to pass.

Not a celebration, JR, just letting you know that there is no animosity intended.

They are cashing a big check. Tell you what though Nashville is a different animal than it was even 10 years ago. Yep, just like Atlanta a generation before, all of us "locals" now live in surrounding counties 04-cheers Sell your small house for twice what you paid for it to someone moving in from California, New York, or Chicago, and buy more land and a bigger house 30 minutes outside of town. They think they are getting a steal because of what they used to pay for housing, and we think we are getting a steal by what they are paying us. Things have gotten absolutely silly around here since the 2009 recession; we were one of very few places to actually grow through it.

I get it.
I have a good friend from Cookeville who spent several years in City government in Hendersonville before he decided that he liked being east of the mountains much better.
He still refers to Hendersonville as Twitty City (because of the number of music personalities that had escaped from Nashville and moved up to Hendersonville).
Oh good grief, this thread is still alive and kicking?? JRSec effectively answered my question with his first post on this thread. As the OP, please just let this thread fade into obscurity, unless the media picks it up and runs with it.
